    • 304 - Premises not free of pests [s. 26(a)]
      • Observation: Evidence of mice droppings under the cooking area were noted in the facility. (Public Health Significance) Rodents and other pests may cross contaminate foods and surfaces or contaminate human food with feces and urine, carry parasites and other diseases.
      • Corrective Action: Remove any pest attractants such as food and water, eliminate access.The operator was educated on the health risks associated with the presence of mice droppings in a food facility, including potential contamination of food and food-contact surfaces. Guidance was provided on safe and proper methods for removing droppings to avoid exposure. The operator was also instructed to follow all recommendations provided by their licensed pest control company to prevent recurrence.
    • 305 - Conditions observed that may allow entrance/harbouring/breeding of pests [s. 26(b),(c)]
      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) During the follow-up visit in the evening, the back door of the facility was observed to be open while maintenance work was being carried out on the roof.(Public Health Significance) Leaving the back door open creates a significant public health risk, as it can allow rodents or other pests to enter the facility. The presence of pests can lead to contamination of food, food-contact surfaces, and equipment, increasing the risk of foodborne illness.
      • Corrective Action: Staff were educated on the risks associated with leaving the back door open, including the increased likelihood of pest entry the facility.They were instructed to keep the door closed at all times when not actively in use.
    • 306 - Food premises not maintained in a sanitary condition [s. 17(1)]
      • Observation: During the inspection, it was observed that oil was dripping from the fryer onto the floor in the cooking and deep-frying area.(Public Health Significance) Oil accumulation on the floor presents multiple public health and safety concerns. It can create a slipping hazard for staff, increase the risk of a fire if the oil comes into contact with heat sources, and contribute to unsanitary conditions by making cleaning more difficult. Additionally, food debris and grease build-up can attract pests, further increasing the risk of contamination within the food premises.
      • Corrective Action: The operator was advised to clean the affected area and to identify and implement a permanent solution to prevent further oil leakage.
    • 312 - Items not required for food premises operation being stored on the premises [s. 18]
      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) It was observed that personal items, such as staff bags, were stored close to food items, including bread crumbs.(Public Health Significance)Personal belongings must not be stored near food or food-contact surfaces, as this can lead to contamination from dirt, bacteria, or other foreign materials.
      • Corrective Action: The operator was advised to remove all personal belongings from areas where food and food-related items are stored.

      • Observation: Plumbing fixtures in the kitchen area were found to be leaking, and one hand washing sink was non-functional
      • Corrective Action: Repair all leaking or malfunctioning plumbing fixtures in your food facility.
    • 401 - Critical Adequate handwashing stations not available for employees [s. 21(4)]
      • Observation: Inadequate facilities provided for hand washing. (Public Health Significance) Hand washing is an important practice to ensure food are protected from cross contamination from other previously handled foods or contact surfaces.
      • Corrective Action: Ensure the hand wash station is accessible at all times and used only as a hand wash station whenever food is being prepared. Soap and paper towel in dispensers and hot and cold running water must be provided to facilitate proper hand washing.

      • Observation: Large amount of food debris and grease were spilled around the garbage receptacle.
      • Corrective Action: Clean up the food debris and spilled grease in the area. Ensure to maintain the area clean to prevent pest activity.
    • 306 - Food premises not maintained in a sanitary condition [s. 17(1)]
      • Observation: The overall food premises has a build-up of debris and grease along walls and behind equipment.
      • Corrective Action: Remove the accumulated debris. Deep clean and sanitize the specified areas in the food establishment.
    • 312 - Items not required for food premises operation being stored on the premises [s. 18]
      • Observation: Observed construction tools/equipment stored in the food preparation area.
      • Corrective Action: Ensure to keep equipment not required for kitchen operations outside of the food preparation area while facility is in operation.

      • Observation: A remote inspection of this premises was conducted via Microsoft Teams video chat on 16-AUG-23. An on-site inspection was not conducted by the environmental health officer.

      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Hamburger patties bag was open within the freezer, leaving the food open to potential contamination.
      • Corrective Action: Operator closed the bag during the inspection.
    • 301 - Critical Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces not maintained in sanitary condition [s. 17(1)]
      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Sanitizer concentration beside the warewashing sink was too low (100 ppm instead of 200 ppm), which could lead to growth or harbourage of pathogens on food contact surfaces.
      • Corrective Action: Changed solution.
    • 305 - Conditions observed that may allow entrance/harbouring/breeding of pests [s. 26(b),(c)]
      • Observation: Crack in side of door when it is closed is significant enough to allow entry of insect pests.
      • Corrective Action: Operator is in the process of replacing the door.
