    • 209 - Repeat Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Scoops left in product (fruits in freezer at the front) in manner that will contaminate food. (Public Health Significance) Improper scoop storage exposes items to bare hand contact and potential contamination.
      • Corrective Action: Store scoops so that foods are not exposed to the handles or bare hand contact. Store food scoops in a sanitary manner and clean and sanitize them regularly.
    • 209 - Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Foods were observed uncovered (vegetable and yoghurt) and open to contamination. (Public Health significance) - Contamination of food from contact with objects, people, pests or chemicals can cause serious illness.
      • Corrective Action: Cover or otherwise protect all foods from airborne contaminants, drips from raw foods, and contact with objects and staff.
    • 302 - Critical Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces not properly washed and sanitized [s. 17(2)]
      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Wiping cloths left on the counters between use. (Public Health significance) - Cloths once used can harbor and grow bacteria if left as used at room temperature.
      • Corrective Action: Store wiping cloths in a sanitizing solution of 200 ppm chlorine or 200 ppm QUATs. Mix according to the manufacturer's specifications.
    • 312 - Items not required for food premises operation being stored on the premises [s. 18]
      • Observation: Personal items (cell phones, water bottles) stored on the same shelf as foods. This could cause cross contamination which could lead to serious sickness.
      • Corrective Action: All personal items as well as non-food items should be stored separate and away from food items/equipmenent/utensils

    • 209 - Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
      • Observation: Dust build up on ice machine. (Public Health significance) - Contamination of ice from contact with dust can cause serious illness.
      • Corrective Action: Clean and sanitize ice machine often and maintain it in sanitary condition at all times.

    • 209 - Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) In freezer for frozen fruit and ice crems, at the front, scoops not stored in manner that prevent contamination of the foods.
      • Corrective Action: This was fixed immediately and manager made aware to ensure scoops are always stored in manner that prevent contamination of foods, scoop handles should always be away from the food.
  4. Routine Inspection

    3 infractions

    • 205 - Critical Cold potentially hazardous food stored/displayed above 4 °C. [s. 14(2)]
      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Potentially hazardous cold foods stored at above 4°C( for less than 2 hours). The internal temperature of chicken paninis and chicken wraps stored in the front display unit was around 12°C. (Public Health significance) - All potentially hazardous foods must be stored at below 4°C or above 60°C - out of the danger zone to prevent bacterial growth and possibly food borne illness.
      • Corrective Action: Operator immediately moved potentially hazardous cold foods to working refrigeration unit that maintains a temperature of 4°C or less, monitor and adjust the temperatures or have serviced, as required. Ensure that the front display unit is able to maintain the temperature of 4°C or less before using it to store potentially hazardous cold foods.
    • 302 - Critical Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces not properly washed and sanitized [s. 17(2)]
      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Inadequate concentration of Quats sanitizing solution. Quats sanitizer in the three compartment sink detected at 50 ppm concentration . (Public Health significance) - The concentration of Quats sanitizer should be at least 200 ppm to be able to effectively sanitize dishware and utensils.
      • Corrective Action: Sanitizer solution in the three compartment sink discarded immediately and replaced with fresh solution which was tested for sanitizer concentration and recorded at 200 ppm.
    • 309 - Chemicals, cleansers, & similar agents stored or labeled improperly [s. 27]
      • Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Cleaning chemicals and sanitizers stored on the same shelf as the containers of juice concentrates. (Public Health significance) - Accidental contact, fumes and spills can contaminate foods.
      • Corrective Action: Store all chemicals safely away from food items.
  5. Routine Inspection

    • 311 - Premises not maintained as per approved plans [s. 6(1)(b)]
      • Observation: Observed cold water at the handwashing sink shut off due to malfunctioning of the tap. This may prevent proper handwashing due to water being very hot.
      • Corrective Action: Ensure that the handwashing sink tap is repaired as soon as possible.
    • 502 - In operator’s absence, no staff on duty has FOODSAFE Level 1 or equivalent [s. 10(2)]
      • Observation: No staff on duty had a food safety training during inspection.
      • Corrective Action: Ensure that atleast one staff on duty with a food safety training certificate is available per shift.
