    • 209 - Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
      • Observation: Observed food stored directly on the freezer floor at the time of inspection. Public Health Significance: Storing food directly on the floor exposes the items to contamination from moisture, debris, and potential pest activity. If spills, leaks, or condensation occur on the floor, the food products may come into direct contact with these contaminants, leading to potential foodborne illness and creating conditions that support bacterial growth. Floor level storage also prevents proper cleaning and increases the risk of cross contamination.
      • Corrective Action: Operator shall ensure all food items are stored at least 15 cm (6 inches) above the floor on shelving or pallets to prevent contamination and permit the adequate cleaning of floor surfaces and proper air circulation within the cold holding equipment.
    • 209 - Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
      • Observation: Flour and sugar were stored in containers that were not maintained in clean or sanitary condition at time of inspection. The containers were observed visibly unclean and dusty. Public Health Significance: Food grade containers must be kept clean and in good condition to prevent contamination. Storing dry goods such as flour and sugar in soiled or unsanitary containers increases the risk of foreign material, bacteria, or pests contaminating the product. Contaminated dry ingredients can compromise food safety and the quality of any food prepared with them.
      • Corrective Action: Operator shall remove all food products from the unsanitary containers, remove all dust and then thoroughly clean and sanitize all food storage containers prior to storing dried food products. Operator shall ensure dried foods are stored in sanitary food grade containers.
    • 301 - Critical Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces not maintained in sanitary condition [s. 17(1)]
      • Observation: Slushy machine was observed in an unsanitary condition at the time of inspection. The dispensing area, including the nozzle and surrounding surfaces, was sticky and showed a visible build-up of slushy residue and unknown biofilm residue. The exterior surfaces of the machine, as well as the drip tray drain ,were observed to have liquid slushy mix and debris, indicating inadequate cleaning and sanitation practices. Public Health Significance: Food and beverage dispensing equipment must be maintained in a clean and sanitary condition to prevent contamination. Residue build-up in slushy machines can support bacterial growth, mould, and biofilm formation. Contaminated dispensing surfaces can transfer harmful micro-organisms directly into beverages served to customers, posing a risk of foodborne illness.
      • Corrective Action: Operator shall remove all unknown biofilm residue and debris from the drip tray and the slushy machine, then clean and sanitize all affected areas. A routine cleaning schedule shall be implement to ensure the equipment is maintained in a sanitary condition at all times.
