      • Alcohol based hand rubs are acceptable when hand washing facilities are limited. Soap and water must be used when hands are visible soiled
    • Operator demonstrates competence in the infection prevention and control practices relevant to the services offered at the personal service setting
      • Operator must demonstrate adherence to the regulatory requirements
    • Equipment of durable construction, maintained in good repair and stored in a clean and sanitary condition
      • Equipment must be kept in a clean and sanitary condition.
    • Intermediate and low-level disinfectants are accompanied by a drug identification number (DIN) or natural product number (NPN) assigned by Health Canada, excluding sodium hypochlorite
    • Non-critical hairdressing items cleaned and disinfected appropriately
      • Non-critical items that only contact hair and not skin require cleaning with soap or detergent and a brush under running water between uses.
      • All items must be cleaned and dried with a clean towel before they can be placed in a disinfectant solution. Placing a soiled item in a disinfectant solution contaminated the entire solution and therefore contaminates all the items placed in it.
      • To achieve appropriate disinfection, items require full immersion in the solution for the appropriate contact time instructed by the manufacturer.
      • A low-level disinfectant can be used to disinfect pre-cleaned, non-critical items.
    • Clean hairdressing and barbering items stored to prevent cross contamination
      • Clean items must be stored separately to prevent cross contamination with soiled items or surfaces.
      • Do not store any item in a container in which contaminated items were placed or into a container which cannot be cleaned due to the nature of its surface material.
