- 102 - Operation of an unapproved food premises [s. 6(1)]
- Observation: Food Items prepared in an unapproved facility. (Public Health significance) - Facilities are approved when they are adequately equipped to accommodate and facilitate safe food preparation. Unapproved facilities may not have the sanitary or food preparation equipment and processes in place to safely produce food products for human consumption.
- Corrective Action: Discontinue preparation of food from the premises immediately. Ensure facility is not used for food preparation until it is approved by Northern Health.
- 103 - Failure to hold a valid permit while operating a food service establishment [s. 8(1)]
- Observation: The current operators do not have a valid permit. Permit was issued to the previous owners.
- Corrective Action: The City is aware the current operators must submit an application for health approval. The premises cannot be used for food preparation and/or serving until a valid permit is issued effective immediately.
- 304 - Repeat Premises not free of pests [s. 26(a)]
- Observation: Holes from outside observed in the basement. Evidence of mice; droppings were noted in the facility. (Public Health Significance) Rodents and other pests may cross contaminate foods and surfaces or contaminate human food with feces and urine, carry parasites and other diseases.
- Corrective Action: Remove any pest attractants such as food and water, eliminate access to the building and routes they use inside. Trap and remove the pests. The use of a professional pest control operator is recommended. Clean and sanitize area where droppings are located and monitor situation.
- 307 - Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces are not of suitable design/material [s. 16; s. 19]
- Observation: Surfaces are not sufficiently sealed or durable to facilitate regular cleaning and sanitizing. There is a big whole in the kitchen. Floors and counter tops have cracks and crevices. Food preparation surfaces are rusted. Public Health significance) Materials like raw wood will absorb juices and harbor and allow disease causing bacteria to grow. Proper materials and finishing is required to ensure adequate cleaning and sanitizing.
- Corrective Action: Refinish surfaces to provide a durable easy to clean surface.
- 308 - Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces are not in good working order [s. 16(b)]
- Observation: Cupboards are cracked and chipped. Floors have holes and crevices. No vent hood in the food premises. Two light bulb covers observed to be cracked. Facility smells mouldy, poor ventilation. Cookware are stored on rusty surfaces. There are holes in the basement.
- Corrective Action: These have to be corrected to ensure food premises is maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.

- Observation: Evidence of various insects present in the facility. (Public Health Significance) Pests may cross contaminate foods and food contact surfaces, as they can carry feces, parasites and other (bacteria/viruses) diseases.
- Corrective Action: Remove any pest attractants such as food and water, eliminate access to the building and routes they use inside. Trap and remove the pests. The use of a professional pest control operator is recommended. Clean and sanitize area the areas where pests were located and monitor situation.

- Observation: Food & Grime debris was observed along the walls, floor, behind equipment.
- Corrective Action: Remove the food debris and grime. Clean and sanitize the specified areas
- 311 - Premises not maintained as per approved plans [s. 6(1)(b)]
- Observation: Floor tile was missing and more degradation expected. (Public Health Significance) Surfaces throughout a food establishment must facilitate proper cleaning to minimize pest attractants and eliminate food contamination concerns.
- Corrective Action: Repair or replace floor (floor tile) in your upcoming renovation plans.
