- 02. Has the operator notified the RHA of the existence of a personal service business, including contact and location information, as well as all personal services currently offered or new personal services that will be offered for facilities and/or special events?
- Facility did not notify Public Health prior to opening. The owner indicated they had been open for about three months after taking over from the previous owner. A personal service notification application was completed at the facility during inspection.ENSURE:Prior to opening, a personal services notification application is completed and send to the regional health authority. If a new service is to be added, the health authority must also be made aware.
- 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
- No written procedures available for accidental cuts or using a dual-purpose sink. Documents were given to owner during inspection.
- 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
- Nail tools (clippers, files, snippers, files) were piled on top of each other in the unapproved "sterilizer". This is an inappropriate method of storage as the tools can be subject to contamination if a worker grabs a tool from the pile. ENSURE:Equipment for personal services are stored in an organized manner, ideally individually packaged after they have been properly sterilized or disinfected.
- 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
- Operator was using a WX-12C Mini High Temperature Sterilizer, which is not an approved sterilizer. Operator did not have any liquid disinfectant as well. Unpackaged nail tools (clippers, files, snippers, cuticle pushers) were stored in the "sterilizer".ENSURE:For semi-critical tools used for nail service, they either need to be sterilized in a Health Canada approved autoclave with a Medical Device License or disinfected in a high-level disinfectant. The owner agreed to suspend nail services until a proper disinfectant or sterilizer is brought in.

- The manicure section of the facility is disorganized with random nail tools lying in drawers.ENSURE:The entire facility is maintained in an organized manner, and all tools are properly packaged and stored.
