- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- High level disinfectant requires instruments to be pre-cleaned and dried prior to disinfection and contact time for a high level disinfectant is 20 minutes. Dremel bits being soaked in CS20 are not following this process. A container of high-level disinfectant to immerse nail clippers do does not contain sufficient solution to cover the instrument. High level disinfectant is log sheet is not maintained to monitor reuse period after pouring.*Ensure the reprocessing steps follow all the steps prescribed on the disinfectant bottle's label. *Fully immerse instruments in the disinfectant solution. *Maintain high level disinfection log.
- 30. Is the reprocessing area of a personal service facility that uses reusable equipment properly designed, managed and maintained to ensure the safety of clients?
- Several instruments are laid out on a towel next to the sink and the reprocessing steps which the instruments have undergone is unclear. Staff must be able to identify what instrument is1. Dirty,2. Cleaned and drying,3. Immersed in disinfectant and for how long (20-minute contact time),4. Drying after rinsing from the high-level disinfectant. * Do not mix up pre-cleaned instruments with disinfected instruments or store pre-cleaned instruments (which are still dirty) on the same towel as disinfected instruments.

- Contaminated dremel bits are stored among clean dremel bits in the same holder. Keep clean bits stored separate from contaminated bits that require reprocessing.
- 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
- Dremel bits are dipped in the disinfectant prior to use at the desk / workstation and not at the reprocessing sink, forgoing the proper steps to preclean, rinse and dry instruments according to the manufacturer's instructions for use. All tools reused on nails must be cleaned to physically remove nail dust and organics which will interfere with the disinfectant.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- No checklist available to monitor disinfectant efficacy for the disinfectant stored at the desk / workstation. Record keeping to track high level disinfection use is incomplete, showing only a date and checkmark. Records must be kept for the following:3.37.1 date of tests (verification of minimum effective concentration);3.37.2 test strip results (pass/fail);3.37.3 dates when disinfectant was changed (for reuse period); and 3.37.4 initials of personal services worker who performed the activity
