    • 19. Does the facility have a valid permit and does the facility operate in compliance with the conditions of that permit, or is the facility awaiting approval prior to operation?
      • A valid permit is not shown for the facility. The owner reported that he has paid for his permit but has not received the actual permit; a receipt for the paid invoice was displayed on the wall.If you cannot find or have lost your Food Permit - please call Provincial Single Point of Contact: 1-833-476-47 to arrange for a replacement Food Permit.     • 14. Does the facility have an adequate supply of potable hot and cold running water and is the water sampled at required intervals?
      • The last water sample received was in Sept 2024. Only four water samples have been submitted this year.Please ensure to submit monthly water samples.Informed by operator that there were two wells in the area and the water is treated. Operator was urged to conduct monthly water sampling.
    • 15. Is the facility free of a pest infestation?
      • Flies were observed outside the main entrance and inside the processing area.Implement pest control measures, keep doors closed. A professional may be required if fly problem persists.
    • 16. Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
      • 1) No pest control records were available.Operator was provided with an AHS pest control checklist that they must maintain monthly.2) Smoker (of food) Area: Light visible underneath one of the double doors due to weatherstripping damage. Operator is aware and he plans on sealing it. Garage entrance door and exit double door on the south side of the processing area had light visible underneath as well. Weatherstripping must be repaired/replaced to prevent entry of pests.

      • Big walk-in freezer shows ice accumulation on floor and wall. Ice buildup on the floor was noted in the entrance of the freezer and a hole on the ceiling right above the door had ice accumulation. This can indicate mechanical issues with the unit. Please have the ice removed and arrange for the cause to be troubleshooted and repaired.

      • No cleaning schedule was present in the facility. Informed operator to implement a cleaning schedule and maintain it.

    • 04. Does the operator use approved methods for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, and surfaces?
      • Bleach sanitizer solution used was too concentrated and above 200 ppm. Solutions used for sanitizing equipment should be at 100 parts per million (ppm) available chlorine. Please use bleach and mix 1/2 teaspoon of bleach per liter water to obtain 100 ppm for sanitization of equipment and food contact surfaces.Guidance sheet on proper sanitation procedures was also given to operator.
    • 07. Do food handlers ensure that food is protected from contamination (unless noted elsewhere)(Critical)?
      • There were deer antlers and other non-meat products like pies and soups in the freezer. In addition, packaged inspected meat and uninspected meat were stored in close proximity without any separation.
    • 12. Are there adequate and properly operating dish washing facilities to effectively clean and sanitize equipment and utensils (unless noted elsewhere)(Non-Critical)?
      • There are no test strips available for monitoring sanitizer solution concentration.Consulted with operator and gave him test strips. Please purchase test strips for each type of sanitizer used on food contact surfaces, and equipment, available on site.
