- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- March 20, 2025:Dermabrasion tips are being "disinfected" with isopropyl alcohol. This is not an approved disinfectant.March 26, 2025:Operators proposed to use "Metrex MetriClean2" to disinfect the dermabrasion tips. However, this is a cleanser and not a high level disinfectant.Corrective Action.- Advised operators to source a high level disinfectant to disinfect these as they are semi-critical pieces of equipment.(Note: High level disinfectants are typically labelled with the words: sporicidal or high level disinfectant and TB, Tuberculocidal or Mycobacterium)- AHS high level disinfectant log template was provided for use.- Test equipment (i.e test strips/paper) is required for use of high level disinfectants.

- The following are currently in progress:- The cleansing of skin and mucous membrane - The application of antiseptic products - Client care in the event of an accidental skin cut or puncture- Decontamination of any sink that will be used for both handwashing and equipment reprocessingCorrective Action:- Written procedures were discussed with the operators.- Operators will fill-out and provide copy.
- 10. Is cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane performed in accordance to written procedures and are suitable products being used?
- Expired antiseptic (iodine) was discovered. Corrective Action:Operators were directed to discard this and to ensure antiseptic products are not used past their expiration dates.
- 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
- Facial handheld equipment (Bela MD+) is initially wiped with a dry cotton pad and the disinfected with CaviWipes (Intermediate level disinfectant).Corrective Action:- Directed operators to include a proper cleaning step prior to disinfecting.- An option includes using the "wipe twice" procedure, where the first pass is the cleaning step (to remove physical contamination such as the gels/products), and the second pass is the disinfecting step.

- Corrected:1) Glasses (PPE for laser) for clients and staff were being "disinfected" with isopropyl alcohol. This is not an approved disinfectant.Corrective Action:Directed operators to use at minimum a low level disinfectant to disinfect the glasses as they are non-critical equipment (only come into contact with intact skin/hair).2) Expired CaviWipes (intermediate level disinfectant) were discovered.Corrective Action:Advised operators to discard this and to ensure disinfectants are not used past their expiration dates.
