- 16. Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
- Box elder beetles were found in a small vase in the retail area. These were discarded appropriately by staff. There was discussion regarding the replacement of the weatherstripping on the front door. Please assess the door and replace the door or weatherstripping as necessary to prevent the entry of pests into the facility.
- 19. Does the facility have a valid permit and does the facility operate in compliance with the conditions of that permit, or is the facility awaiting approval prior to operation?
- The current food permit was displayed in a conspicuous location behind the front till (in compliance). Please note that the permit restricts the sale of food to prepackaged goods only. There were several jars of bulk candy present behind the counter contrary to the permit restriction. The removal of the jars of loose candies was discussed with staff on site. The removal of these jars will be verified by a follow up inspection on November 9. NOTE: This facility had signed an agreement in 2015 to use an approved kitchen to package candies for sale. This practice may be used to sell the existing candy OR the facility can continue to sell only prepackaged, commercially manufactured products.
