      • Written procedures were not available upon request.
    • 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
      • A nail file and some nail sanding bands appeared to be reused. The nail file and sanding bands were discarded immediately upon request.
    • 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
      • Several manicure tools appeared dirty and had nail dust buildup. The tools were cleaned and disinfected immediately upon request. Ensure a visual inspection is completed for cleanliness prior to disinfection and use.

      • The high level disinfectant was observed to be expired and no records of high level disinfectant was observed. Obtain new high level disinfectant and ensure daily records are kept of the high level disinfectant testing. A disinfection log template has been sent to the operator.

      • Nail drill bits were being disinfected with 70 percent alcohol. Semi-critical equipment must be cleaned and disinfected with at least a high level disinfectant. Ensure that all semi-critical equipment is washed, rinsed and dried before full immersion into the high level disinfectant, and that the high level disinfectant is rinsed off after the disinfection process.

      • The squeeze bottles located in the pedicure area were not labelled. Label all squeeze bottles.

      • The required written procedures were not observed during inspection. Please ensure written procedures as it applies to your operations are made available. Such as - Written procedure for client care in an event of accidental skin cuts or punctures, - Written procedure for cleansing of skin before waxing and - Written procedure for decontamination of any sink that will be used for both handwashing and equipment reprocessing. The sink at the front area will be used for tools reprocessing and handwashing. Templates will be sent with this report.

      • 1. The high level disinfectant at the facility (Preempt CS20) had expired. The disinfectant expired in 2019. Please replace the expired disinfectant. 2. Test strips were not available to test high level disinfectant (Preempt CS20) used at the facility and high-level disinfectant testing log was not being kept. Please purchase high level disinfectant test strips, ensure high level disinfectants are tested each day used and records/log kept.       • Waxing bed was observed to be in disrepair. Areas with exposed porous surface was noted. Repair or replace the waxing bed, ensure all areas are impervious to moisture.

      • Single use nail files that are not cleanable were not being discarded after a single use. Used files were observed at nail stations. The operator removed the files during inspection.Equipment labeled single use or is uncleanable must be discarded after use on one client.

      • Re-usable manicure and pedicure tools to be disinfected were not being fully immersed inside a disinfectant. Please ensure all re-usable tools are fully immersed inside a disinfectant according to the manufacturer's instructions.

      • Nail stations appeared unclean. Cabinets, work surfaces, equipment and tool containers had dirt and debris accumulation. Please the entire nail stations including surfaces, equipment, cabinets and tool containers.

      • Waxing bed was observed to be in disrepair. Areas with exposed porous surface was noted. Repair or replace the waxing bed, ensure all areas are impervious to moisture.
    • 30. Is the reprocessing area of a personal service facility that uses reusable equipment properly designed, managed and maintained to ensure the safety of clients?
      • Reprocessing was noted to be done in the washroom sink. The operator removed the tools decided the use the sink at the front area for re-processing.The sink at the front area is also used for handwashing. A written procedure for decontamination of the sink in-between use must be in place.
    • 33. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this personal services facility (Non-Critical)?
      • Bedding was being re-used for the waxing bed. The staff was advised to use single-use bedding or use a single use liner on the non-absorbent bed. The staff removed the bedding during inspection. Please note that the waxing bed must be disinfected in-between client use.
