- 1. Operator of Mas Tattoo Ink indicated that the hand washing sink in their service area (upstairs) is used for both hand washing and equipment reprocessing. There is no written procedure for decontamination of a dual-purpose sink (hand washing and equipment reprocessing).Hand washing must not occur at a sink used for equipment reprocessing , unless there is a written procedure that personal services workers follow to appropriately clean and disinfect the sink area between reprocessing and handwashing activities.2. Operator of Mas Tattoo Ink does not have written procedures for accidental skin cuts and punctures.Ensure that the written procedure documents applicable to the services provided at this facility are completed and kept on site at all times. An operator of a Personal Services Establishment must be able to easily access these documents for review/revision and when requested by a Public Health Inspector.

- A reusable cloth hand towel was observed to be hanging on a hand towel holder in the washroom. Public Health Inspector instructed operator to remove the towel and operator placed single use paper towels into the washroom. If using re-usable linen, they must be single-use OR utilize single-use paper towels to prevent and/or reduce cross-contamination.

- Daily testing results for high-level disinfectant (CS20 - MDL 193055) are inadequately maintained.Daily test results of high-level disinfectants must be monitored, recorded and maintained to ensure that the minimum effective concentration for disinfection is verified.

- 3 open bottles of tattoo pigment ink in various shades (Red, White and Orange) were observed to be expired in the Mas Tattoo Ink service area. Expiration dates observed on bottles: (Red Ink) 02/15/2026, (Orange Ink) 11/2025, and (White Ink) 08/29/2025. Operator discarded expired products during the inspection. Ensure that cosmetic products used for invasive/high risk procedures are unexpired and used in accordance with the manufacturers instructions for use.

- A white porcelain sink on a counter in the hair styling area had food containers and a food bowl cluttered in and around the sink. Ensure that incompatible activities are separated from the sink and surrounding area. Staff should have a separate area for storage of food items & personal effects.

- The nail service area is not maintained in a clean and organized manner with clear separation of dirty equipment. Ensure that the used equipment is removed and stored separately to prevent accidental reuse. Ensure that every dirty reuseable equipment is washed and disinfected after each use.Update (December 27, 2023): The facility has been cleaned and organized. Clear separation of clean and dirty equipment is still needed.

- A high-level disinfectant (CS-20) had been obtained. However, test strips and written records were not available. Health inspector will send written record template. The operator is responsible for obtaining test strips. Health inspector will send links to online options for test strips for CS-20.Update (December 20, 2023): CS-20 high level disinfectant is still used by the operator with no test strips available. Inspector confirmed with the operator that the written record template was successfully delivered to the operator's email. Update (December 27, 2023): CS-20 test strips for 2.0% hydrogen peroxide concentration were available on site. These test strips are inadequate to test the high level disinfectant available, 7.0% CS-20.

- The sink in nail service area was noted to be without soap and paper towel. The sink in tattoo service area was supplied with soap and paper towel.Ensure that all hand sinks are supplied with liquid soap and paper towel for thorough hand washing.

- Inspector observed single-use items stored in the "STERILUX" machine suggesting that there was intent to reuse these items. Operator has been asked to remove the "STERILUX" from the facility as it is not an approved device for reprocessing equipment in Alberta. This violation had been noted on December 29, 2022 and was observed once again on December 20, 2023.
