      • Linen used in the waxing room was not being replaced after each use. The linen was removed upon request. Linen will no longer be used in the waxing room and the waxing bed will be disinfected after each use.

      • High level disinfectant testing log was not available. Testing log was sent to operator. Ensure all testing is recording.

    • 33. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this personal services facility (Non-Critical)?
      • 1. High level disinfectant test strips were expired. Ensure new test strips are obtained2. Intermediate level disinfectant used to disinfect pedicure foot baths was expired. Ensure new product is obtained.

    • 05. Are written procedures reviewed and revised when required, and do they meet the requirements set out in the standards?
      • Written procedures are not being reviewed as required, as owner and staff were unsure where the written procedures were when asked. Ensure written procedures are being followed and updated as necessary.
    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • Owner and operators did not appear to have the knowledge on how to disinfect equipment properly. More education on how to reprocess reusable items is required. Ensure all staff review the Personal Services Standards and are aware of how to operate this kind of business and how to clean and disinfect reusable equipment properly. Copy of the Personal Services Standard will be emailed with this report.

    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • Owner and operators did not appear to have the knowledge on how to disinfect equipment properly. More education on how to reprocess reusable items is required.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • 1. Operators were disinfecting semi-critical equipment with intermediate level disinfectant. Semi-critical equipment must be disinfected with high-level disinfectant. PHI instructed owner to get high-level disinfectant immediately and disinfect all equipment properly. PHI asked that all clients are turned away for service until the reusable equipment is all disinfected properly.2. Operators were re-using expired intermediate level disinfectant on non-critical items in waxing room. Intermediate level disinfectant is not to be re-used. The intermediate level disinfectant must have a good date and be used each time when disinfecting non-critical items and surfaces (food baths and tweezer for waxing etc.)

    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • Written procedure for application of antiseptic products was incorrect. Operators had written down that they cleanse the skin with Preempt CS20. Discussed with operator that they do not do this, they wipe the skin down with isopropyl alcohol prior to service. Ensure the written template is updated with the proper procedure. Any antiseptic used must have a DIN or NPN number on the label issued by Health Canada.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • 1. No test strips available to test the Preempt CS20. Ensure test strips are obtained as soon as possible. 2. Operators are not keeping a high level disinfection log with daily testing of the Preempt CS20. A log template will be emailed to owner.
