    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • Discussed the eyebrow tinting procedures with the staff who performed the service. Staff were not following manufacturer's instructions for use:1. The product being used for eyebrow tinting (Berrywell Augenblick Cream Hair Dye) had a caution label that said, “This product must not be used for dying the eyelashes or eyebrows, to do so may cause blindness”. 2. Staff were also not following the directions on the label that said it was to be mixed with another developer lotion product. They were mixing the dye with a bit of water.
    • 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
      • Two manicure stations had brushes and nail implements stored in an open container on the countertop. The items were covered in nail dust. Clean and disinfect that items and store inside the drawer to protect clean items from contamination.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?

The directions on the label that said it was to be mixed with another developer lotion product. They were mixing the dye with a bit of water.

      • The manicure station work surfaces that come in contact with client's skin (hands) are not being cleaned between clients

      • Eyebrow wax services are being done prior to eyebrow tinting. Once skin is waxed it must be treated as non-intact skin. Complete brow tinting prior to waxing.

      • The HLD testing log was not maintained and available for review during inspection.Test HLD daily before reusing the disinfectant and maintain record otherwise dump at the end of everyday and start with new pour daily.

      • Reprocessing sink and area noted being accessible to the clients.Sink located in the waxing room is recommended to designate as a reprocessing sink.

      • The HLD testing log was not maintained and available for review during inspection.Test HLD daily before reusing the disinfectant and maintain record otherwise dump at the end of everyday and start with new pour daily.

      • The facility was using alcohol to clean and disinfect the client work stations. Education was provided to the staff member regarding the fact that alcohol is an antiseptic not a disinfectant.Facility is advised to use any low level disinfectant which has DIN number and disinfectant claim on it. Staff is emphasized to read the manufacturer's information regarding contact times and proper use of the disinfectants.

      • The sheet on the waxing station was noted in disrepair, absorbent to moisture and porous.Remove and discard the sheet.
    • 30. Is the reprocessing area of a personal service facility that uses reusable equipment properly designed, managed and maintained to ensure the safety of clients?
      • Reprocessing sink and area noted being accessible to the clients.Sink located in the waxing room is recommended to designate as a reprocessing sink.

      • The reprocessing sink was also often used by clients as a handwashing sink due to its accessibility.Written procedures are provided to the staff for the decontamination of reprocessing sink. The staff is also advised to guide clients to use the washroom sink for handwashing purpose. The staff is recommended to put signage of "no handwashing" on the reprocessing sink.

An intermediate level disinfectant was reportedly being used to disinfect the semi-critical tools.2-No high level testing logs were present to review.3- No test strips for high level disinfectant were noted onsite.Operator was requested to send picture of HLD and test strips prior to opening the store next day and maintain daily hld testing log.
