- Compliance with critical maintenance and sanitation requirements (O.Reg. 136/18; Sec. 8(1)(1).
- The operator must not offer service(s) until approved by the medical officer of health or public health inspector.
- Every operator must provide notice to the medical officer of health within 14 days of his or her plans to operate a personal service setting (O.Reg. 136/18; Sec. 3 (1-6)).
- Ensure the owner/operator of a personal service setting (PSS) provides the following information prior to opening/operating a PSS: 1. The name, if any, and location of the intended personal service setting. 2. The name and contact information of the person intending to operate the personal service setting. 3. A list of the personal services that will be provided at the personal service setting.
- Owner/operator must provide notification prior to offering any additional services, carrying out renovations or discontinuing service delivery during a renovation/reconstruction.
- Premises must have one sink used only for hand washing. (O.Reg. 136/18; Sec. 8(1)(5i-ii).
- Ensure the hand wash sink is dedicated for hand washing only.
- Ensure the hand wash sink is conveniently located to the work area.
- Ensure the hand wash sink is accessible at all times.
- Ensure the hand wash sink has a continuous supply of hot and cold running water under pressure. (O.Reg. 136/18; Sec. 8(1)(5; iii).
- Ensure the hand wash sink has a supply of soap in a dispenser and a method of hand drying. (O.Reg. 136/18; Sec. 8(1)(6).
- Provide liquid soap in a dispenser at the hand wash sink.
- Provide paper towels in a dispenser at the hand wash sink or provide a hand dryer in close proximity to the hand wash sink.
- Ensure alcohol based hand rub is available for hand hygiene at point of service and is not expired.
- Every personal service setting in which reusable equipment is used shall ensure that there is at least one sink for cleaning reusable equipment (O.Reg. 136/18; 8(3a-e)).
- Ensure the sink used for cleaning equipment is not the same as the hand wash sink.
- Ensure the cleaning sink is capable of immersing the largest piece of reusable equipment used at the setting.
- Ensure the cleaning sink is continuously supplied with potable hot and cold running water under pressure.
- Ensure the cleaning sink has adequate counter space to prepare reusable equipment for use and re-use.
- Ensure the cleaning sink is not located in a room with a toilet.
- Ensure the cleaning sink is sufficiently separated from where personal services are provided to prevent cross contamination.
- Records relating to invasive procedures must be kept by every operator of a personal service setting (O.Reg. 136/18; 6(1-2)).
- Ensure records include: 1. Which procedure was done and which the part of the body the procedure was done to. 2. The name and contact information of the person who received the procedure. 3. The name and contact information of the person who provided the procedure. 4. Documentation that an explanation of the procedure and information about any risks associated with the procedure were communicated to the client. 5. Dates of the procedure. 6. The lot numbers and expiry date of the pre-packaged sterile equipment used in the procedure.
