- 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
- The facility is reusing the disposable liners for the pedicure tubs. The hard plastic liners are doubled up and then another softer plastic disposable liner (with an elastic band) is placed over them. This plastic liner is then put through the washer and dryer and the hard plastic liner is cleaned and disinfected. At the time of the inspection, the hard plastic liners were compromised. The bottom layer had melted from the heat of the bowl and water had leaked through both liners into the basin. The metal part of the liner lifting rack was rusting, indicating that it had been sitting in liquid for a while. Please discard ALL plastic disposable liners after each use. These are meant to be used once and then discarded.
- 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
- Operator has been reusing the foam toe separators. There was a jar of used separators sitting near the pedicure tubs. These toe separators were discoloured, stretched out and had nail polish on them. The operator indicated that they put them through the wash after each use prior to using on another client. The foam toe separators are a single use item. They cannot be properly cleaned and disinfected between use on different clients. These must be discarded (or given to the client) after each use.
- 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
- There was some reusable equipment (ie. nail clippers etc.) found stored in a "junk" drawer. The drawer contained a bunch of discoloured foam emery boards, a tube of ointment and other odds and ends. The drawer was also full of nail dust. The operator indicated that the tools were still used on clients, but the other items in the drawer were not for client use. The operator was asked to remove all items not used on clients and clean the drawer. Please ensure that all tools used on clients are protected from contamination during storage.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- The disinfectants used include PreEmpt CS-20 for the nail tools and PreEmpt RTU spray for the pedicure liners/basin. However, the CS-20 had expired in 2023 and the RTU in 2022. Please obtain new disinfectants. Ensure that expiry dates are regularly checked.
- 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
- There was a layer of dust on almost all the surfaces in the pedicure area. This area needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. Please clean the pedicure area and ensure that this is done on a regular basis.
