    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • Operator demonstrated a lack of knowledge for not following manufacturer's instructions for disinfecting the semi-critical instruments. Operator stated that semi-critical instruments were being immersed in high-level disinfectant for an hour. PHI provided education to follow the manufacturer's instructions for use.
    • 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
      • Single-use items, including nail buffers and nail files, were observed being reused. Operator was instructed to immediately cease reuse of any single-use items. Discard any single-use disposable items after use. Do not reuse single-use items.
    • 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
      • Used manicure equipment was left at the manicure station instead of being promptly removed or stored away from clean equipment. Operator was instructed to clean and disinfect all semi-critical tools in the facility with the valid high-level disinfectant, following manufacturer’s instructions for use.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • There was no high-level disinfectant provided for semi-critical reusable equipment. The high-level disinfectant present in the facility expired on March 4, 2025. Operator was instructed to obtain a valid high-level disinfectant for disinfection of semi-critical instruments and use in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions for use. This may include obtaining test strips and establishing record keeping if the high-level disinfectant will be reused.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • Operator was using 70% isopropyl alcohol on the pedicure footbaths after clients, which does not meet the criteria of a low-level disinfectant. Operator was instructed to obtain a low-level disinfectant for use on pedicure baths. Wash and disinfect all pedicure baths in the facility and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use.

      • ***The ABHR had expired. Discussed that the expired product may not be as effective since the manufacturer only indicated that it was good until the expiry date. She plans on getting new product.
