    • 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
      • Several used nail files and nail buffs were observed to be stored in the drawers of the manicure work stations. All used nail files and buffs were discarded immediately upon request.
    • 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
      • Some semi-critical tools stored in the manicure station drawers appeared dusty and were not visibly clean. All soiled tools were immediately removed, cleaned and disinfected.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • PreEmpt RTU used for general surface disinfectant was expired. Obtain new disinfectant for general surfaces.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Several bottles by the pedicure station were not labelled. Ensure all squeeze bottles and chemicals are labelled.
    • 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
      • Large amounts of spillage was observed around the wax warmers. Clean the above mentioned area.

    • 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
      • Observed staff member clean reusable tools with soap and water and immediately put into the container of high level disinfectant. Discussed with staff they must ensure the cleaned tools are completely dry before putting into the disinfectant. Adding wet tools will dilute the high level disinfectant and it may not properly disinfect the tools.
    • 30. Is the reprocessing area of a personal service facility that uses reusable equipment properly designed, managed and maintained to ensure the safety of clients?
      • Reprocessing sink area is cluttered with employee's personal items (food items, drink bottles etc.). This area must be cleared of employee personal items and used for reprocessing reusable equipment only.

    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • The high level disinfectant (Preempt CS20) is past it's expiry date (Sept 2023). PHI tested the solution strength with chemical test papers and the solution was found to be in compliance (passed the test paper test). Advised owner to get new CS20 product that is not expired.
    • 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
      • 1. Pedicure foot baths were not being disinfected properly. Operator was using CS20 and adding water to it. Advised the operator that CS20 is a high level disinfectant and should not be used in the food baths. Ensure an intermediate level disinfectant is obtained and used to disinfect the pedicure foot baths going forward. Note: operators always use a single use disposable liner in the foot baths after foot baths are cleaned. 2. In the waxing room, surfaces appeared dirty (wax build up, debris accumulation on surfaces). Ensure this area is cleaned and sanitized well.
