    • 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
      • *Used single use gloves were found in the salon. Gloves were stained. Staff indicated they are reusing gloves for washing clients’ hair and cleaning. Please ensure single use gloves are not reused. Used gloves discarded on site.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • *Disinfectant used for surfaces was expired. Prempt RTU- expiry date 06/2026. Please get new disinfectant.*Hair was noted inside the storage drawers of the rolling cart used to store clean combs. Clean out the storage drawers and ensure that only clean, disinfected tools are placed into clean storage areas*The barbicide brand on site was Salon Care Disinfectant and did not appear to have a DIN. Please ensure all disinfectants have a DIN.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • *Debris was noted inside the barbicide disinfectant jar. Staff reported that the barbicide was being changed once per week. The manufacturer’s instruction stated the disinfectant must be prepared fresh daily. Discard the contaminated barbicide and revise the practice to ensure the disinfectant is made daily. Barbicide was discarded on site. *Fresh barbicide was made on site. PHI reviewed the preparing barbicide instructions with staff, as staff were not measuring the barbicide concentrate. Please ensure barbicide is prepared according to the manufacturer’s instruction.

    • 05. Are written procedures reviewed and revised when required, and do they meet the requirements set out in the standards?
      • *High level disinfectant testing log was available, but documentation wasn’t clear if disinfectant was being tested as required. Owner indicated manicure/pedicure are not common services requested by clients. They don’t use high level disinfectant every day, so they do not test every day. It was discussed, operator can modify the AHS templated logs to fit their operations or make their own logs. Testing information was also recorded on a plastic sheet over the paper log with dry erase markers. Update the high-level disinfectant logs to demonstrate disinfectant is being used only for 14 days and concentration is sufficient. Ensure old logs are available for review upon request.

      • *Manicure tools after cleaning and disinfection were being placed into blue sterilization pouches, debris was found inside one pouch of tools. Immediately reclean and disinfect tools. Discussed tools do not need to be placed into sterilization pouches. If pouches are being used, they must be clean.

      • *Hand washing sink was blocked by furniture and manicure/pedicure storage equipment. Reorganize area and ensure hand sink is easily accessible for hand washing.
