- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- 1. Handles of the nail drill were not being disinfected. **Ensure nail drill handles are being disinfected with a low level disinfectant. Current HDX disinfectant wipes are satisfactory. 2. Used drill bits were observed to be disinfected with isopropyl alcohol. **Isopropyl alcohol is no longer recognized as an approved disinfectant. Please soak the drill bits in the CS 20. 3. Semi-critical equipment were not being properly soaked in the CS 20. Operator was using a stainless steel plate and soaking for 10 minutes. **Ensure equipment is fully submerged in the CS 20 disinfectant solution for at least 20 minutes. Remove, rinse with water and air dry.Currently operator is not re-using the solution. If re-use solution, please obtain test strips and record results.

- A bleach chemical was indicated as being used for disinfecting a recirculating footbath. The product used explicitly stated that it was not intended for use as a disinfectant. Acquire a suitable disinfectant with DIN and explicit disinfectant claims.

A means of accurately tracking the elapsed time of high-level disinfectant in use was not available. Ensure a timer, watch, or other reliable means of measuring contact time is available whenever semi-critical equipment is being reprocessed.

- Confirm that an intermediate level disinfectant is being used to disinfect footbaths. Low level disinfectant may be considered suitable if a plastic liner is being used in basins. *Plastic liners are not being used for footbaths. A suitable disinfectant is necessary to prevent biofilm growth.

- Operator indicated that spa tools were disinfected using alcohol. A high-level disinfectant was not identified onsite. Nail clippers, cuticle pushers, and other spa tools are classified as semi-critical and require a high level of disinfection. Provide a high-level disinfectant for use.
