- 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
- A sink was present; however, no soap or paper towels were available at the time of inspection. As a result, the sink does not meet the requirements for a functional handwashing station. The operator stated that the washroom is not used and that individuals are directed to use a neighboring facility. This practice is not permitted. A dedicated and fully equipped handwashing sink must be available and accessible within the facility at all times. The operator was advised to supply soap and single-use paper towels immediately and ensure proper handwashing facilities are maintained on-site in compliance with health requirements.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- No combs were observed in Barbicide at the time of inspection. The operator stated combs are soaked for 30 minutes. This is not recommended, as extended soaking can damage tools and is unnecessary beyond the required contact time. Barbicide solution was also observed to have particles/debris at the bottom. Equipment must be cleaned (free of hair, dirt, and debris) prior to disinfection, as organic matter can reduce the effectiveness of the disinfectant. The operator was instructed to follow the manufacturer’s directions for proper cleaning, dilution, and contact time.
- 31. Are sinks accessible and used appropriately for the personal services provided?
- Sinks are not adequately equipped or used appropriately for the personal services provided. At the time of inspection, the sink lacked soap and paper towels and therefore did not function as a proper handwashing station. The operator also indicated that individuals are directed to use a neighboring facility, which is not permitted.Proper, fully equipped handwashing facilities must be accessible and used on-site at all times to maintain hygiene and prevent the spread of contamination.
- 33. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this personal services facility (Non-Critical)?
- Toilet paper was observed unboxed and not properly placed on a dispenser or within reach of the toilet. Toilet paper must be stored in a sanitary manner and readily accessible to users at all times to support proper hygiene practices
