- 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
- It was observed that after placing used tools in the reprocessing area, the staff member did not perform hand hygiene and returned back to her station. Hand hygiene was discussed in detail with staff. Staff must perform hand hygiene when changing gloves, moving from one client to another, and at other appropriate times. Hand hygiene can be performed using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, 60-90% alcohol with NPN or DIN (if hands are visibly clean) or by washing hands (if hands are soiled, dirty, or not visibly clean).
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- A staff member was observed reprocessing manicure tools by rinsing them under running water, brushing them, and then placing them in HLD 5. The proper method was discussed in detail during the inspection. Tools must be cleaned properly before putting in HLD 5. Staff must follow the manufacturer’s instructions for disinfectant use. The operator was advised to print a copy of the MIFU and post it in the reprocessing area for staff awareness.
