- Facility has no written procedures for:- the cleansing of skin and mucous membrane (such as for waxing)- client care in the event of an accidental skin cut or puncture

- Several used single-use items (including foam files and buffing blocks) were observed to be stored at manicure stations for re-use.Corrective Action:- Advised staff to dispose of all used single-use items during the inspection.- Moving forward, ensure single-use items are only used once per client.
- 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
- Acrylic powder (for gel nails) is being stored in re-used food packaging/containers (including infant formula and coffee related packaging/containers).Corrective Action:- Advised staff to cease the re-use of food packaging/containers for storage of cosmetic product.- Discard any contaminated cosmetic product.- Use containers that keep the product sanitary and safe for use (i.e. smooth, non-porous, and easily cleanable).

- All manicure stations (including the interior and exterior of drawers/cupboards) have accumulated dust, grime, and residue. Corrective Action:- Advised staff to clean manicure stations.- Moving forward, ensure manicure stations are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.

- Staff's personal items (including food, beverages, medication, and manicure tools) were discovered to be stored in client service areas including in/on manicure stations, carts, shelves, etc. and storage areas.Corrective Action:- Advised staff to remove all personal items (including food, beverages, medication, and manicure tools) from client service areas and storage areas.- Moving forward, ensure all staff personal items are stored separate from client service areas and personal service business related items.- Furthermore, staff shall not eat/drink at client service areas.

- 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
- The operator did not have written established procedures for skin cleansing and preparation or for client care in the event of a cut or puncture. The operator was given template documents and instructed on how to properly fill it out and to post it in their facility. Ensure staff are educated on these procedures and that these written procedures are posted for staff to reference when needed.
- 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
- The handwashing sink in the waxing room lacked paper towel. The operator replaced the paper towel during the inspection. Ensure all handwashing sinks are equipped with soap, paper towel, and hot & cold running water.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- Staff was not properly recording the dates for the testing of the disinfectant used for reprocessing. The operator was educated on how to properly test, record, and safely reuse the disinfectant. Staff also indicated that they were not ensuring the equipment being reprocessed was immersed in disinfectant for the full contact time listed on the label. Ensure the manufacturer's instructions for the disinfectant are followed and the solution is tested daily to ensure it remains viable within reuse period.

- Several chemicals and cosmetic products were in unlabeled containers throughout the facility. The operator was educated on the importance of having labels on containers and instructed to ensure that all products are labelled to indicate what product is contained within.
- 29. Is the facility properly constructed and maintained to allow for the safe and sanitary provision of personal services (Non-Critical)?
- The finish on several client chairs and the waxing chair had been damaged which prevented it from being smooth, non-porous, and easy to clean. Numerous client chairs also had cloth covers on them which prevented easy cleaning. Ensure that work surfaces in the facility are smooth, non-porous, and easily cleanable.
