- 10. Is cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane performed in accordance to written procedures and are suitable products being used?
- There is no skin cleansing step prior to waxing. Please obtain a skin cleanser/antiseptic for use prior to waxing.
- 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
- Dec 16/25: All single use nail files and toe separators had been removed from the manicure desk drawers and pedicure drawers. The used nail files were being kept in another drawer in the reprocessing area. The owner indicated that these files are then used to remove the nail polish on the nail lamps. Please discard all used nail files. A new, unused nail file can be kept to scrape off dried nail polish on the nail lamps rather than ones previously used on clients. _______There was evidence that single use items such as foam centered emery boards and foam toe separators were being reused. These used items were found in the manicure station desk drawers and pedicure station drawers. All of the used toe separators were discarded during the inspection. All single use items are to be discarded after each client. They are not to be put back in drawers or reused.
- 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
- The pedicure drawers that contained the foot scrubbers, toe separators and other equipment used for pedicures were full of nail dust and other debris. These bins need to be cleaned out and sanitized prior to placing the clean equipment back into them.
- 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
- Dremel tools were found stored in the manicure and pedicure stations with dirty reusable bits still attached. The Dremel tools themselves were not clean either. The nail bits must be removed after each client and thoroughly cleaned prior to disinfection.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- The impellors in the pedicure tubs are not being removed and cleaned between clients. The parts of the impellors had hair and other slimy debris caught up in them. The backs of the impellors where they attach to the pedicure tub were noted to be quite dirty. Please ensure that the impellors are removed and opened up to facilitate thorough cleaning and disinfection after each client.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- There are no test strips for testing the disinfectant. The facility is reusing their solution for up to 14 days (which is fine) but each day that the solution is reused, it needs to be tested to ensure that the disinfectant concentration is appropriate. Please obtain test strips specific to the disinfectant in use.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- The cleaning and disinfecting procedures for the nail equipment were discussed with the owner. Proper procedures for cleaning and disinfecting of equipment were not being followed. The following was discussed: 1. Clean all nail equipment with soap and running water and then let dry. 2. Disinfect the equipment. The equipment must be fully immersed for the appropriate amount of time (ie. CS-20 for 20 minutes, HLD5 for 5 minutes). 3. Once the disinfection time is reached, remove equipment and rinse under running water and then let dry before use.
- 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
- Dec 16/25: At the time of the inspection, the sticks that had been in the wax pot the day before had been removed. Waxing procedures were discussed and it was noted that double dipping had been occurring. The hairs and the chunk in the two wax pots were pointed out to the owner and both wax pots were discarded and new ones placed into the warmers. ______There were two wax pots located in the waxing area. Staff indicated that waxing was not being offered on the day of the inspection; however, the wax pots were uncovered and hot. There were 5 wooden sticks stored in the wax in one of the pots.It was noted that one of the wax pots had some hair in it and the other had an unknown chunk in it.
- 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
- Dec 16/25: Regular cleaning of the facility was discussed with the owner. They will be undergoing a deep clean during the evenings this week, which should be completed by the weekend. ________The facility could use a good deep cleaning. There was a lot of nail dust noted throughout the entire facility. Broken artificial nails were noted on the floor. The ledges behind the pedicure chairs had a layer of dust on them and the floor. All the drawers of the pedicure stations (and some of the manicure station drawers) were full of nail dust and other debris. There was wax splattered onto the wall behind the wax pots. Please conduct a thorough cleaning of the entire facility. Ensure that regular cleaning of surfaces occurs daily.

- 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
- The "clean" metal foot files were found stored in a bowl beside the sink that also contained the scrub brushes for cleaning the equipment. This bowl also had about an inch of dirty water in the bottom of it. These foot files will need to be removed and cleaned and disinfected again and then stored elsewhere.
- 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?

- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- At the time of the inspection, staff were asked what the disinfectant in use was. The staff were unsure what the disinfectant was and no disinfectant bottles (ie. PreEmpt) were found during the inspection. There was a note on the wall above the disinfection trays that stated that the solution was poured on December 1 and was to be discarded on December 15. Staff indicated that the owner does this at night. There were also no test strips noted for testing the solution each day of reuse.

- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- The facility was using alcohol to disinfect all their nail tools. Semi critical equipment such as nail clippers, nippers and cuticle pushers may come into contact with non intact skin and therefore require a high level disinfectant. Alcohol is considered an intermediate level disinfectant. Of note, the facility was previously using PreEmpt CS20, which is a high level disinfectant, but switched back to alcohol. Please obtain a high level disinfectant and start using this on the nail equipment.
- 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
- The impellors in the pedicure tubs are not being opened up and cleaned on a daily basis. They had a build up of grime and debris in almost all of them. Please fully clean these on at least a daily basis. The drawers of the manicure stations require more regular cleaning. There was a very large buildup of nail clippings and dust in each of the drawers. Please empty and clean these drawers on a daily basis.
