- 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
- Several used toe separators and nail files were observed stored in drawers at the pedicure and manicure stations. The operator stated that these items had been sanitized; however, the operator was advised that toe separators and nail files are single-use items and must be discarded immediately after each client. The operator was directed to dispose of all used single-use items right away and to cease reusing them going forward.

- ** Reusable manicure and waxing tools covered in nail dust and oily substances were observed in the drawers. The operator was directed to reprocess the dirty tools.** When asked about the reprocessing protocol, the operator stated that tools are soaked in CS20 for 15 minutes after cleaning and that the solution is changed every two weeks. When asked how staff track the 15-minute soak time, the operator indicated they rely on estimation.The operator was educated that the required contact time for CS20 is 20 minutes; tools must be fully submerged in CS20 for 20 minutes, followed by rinsing and air drying. The operator was advised to use a timer to ensure the 20-minute contact time is consistently achieved. Additionally, the operator was directed to develop a staff plan to ensure all employees follow proper tool reprocessing procedures.

- Several manicure stations (not in use at the time) were covered in nail dust, indicating that these stations are not being cleaned and disinfected between clients. Ensure that all client contact surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each client.

- Used single use items were not being disposed after use and appeared to be re-used. Items such as used single-use buffers, nail files and gloves were observed at different nail stations. The items were discarded by the staff and the PHI during inspection.Please ensure single use items are used once and discarded immediately after use.

- Poured high level disinfectant in a jar did not appear sufficient to completely immerse tools. The staff was not aware tools need to be completely immersed in a disinfectant solution during disinfection. Education was provided to the staff on proper disinfecting practice.Please ensure disinfectant solutions in the facility are used according to manufacturer's instructions.

Ensure your high-level disinfectant testing log sheet is up to date. Poured disinfectant to be re-used must tested each day used and log sheet kept.

- Porous beddings placed on the waxing bed were being re-used for more than one client. Changing beddings with clean one's in-between clients was discussed with the staff during inspection. Please note that the non-absorbent client waxing bed must also be disinfected when the beddings are removed after each client use.
