    • Drinking water samples must be provided from every owner and operator who intends to supply water to users after any period of more than 60 days during which the system was not supplying water.
      • A water sample must be taken and tested for Escherichia coli and total coliforms prior to supplying water to users.
      • Provide proof of drinking water sample results.
      • Notify in writing to the Medical Officer of Health the proposed date on which the SDWS will begin to supply water to users.
    • Every owner and operator maintains the SDWS in a safe and sanitary condition.
      • The water provided by the system must meet the requirements established by Ontario Regulation 319/08 - Small Drinking Water Systems or the Ontario Regulation 169/03 - Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards.
    • Every owner and operator ensures that the SDWS is maintained in a fit state of repair at all times.
    • The owner of the SDWS has designated an operator and provided proper notifications to the Medical Officer of Health.
      • Owner must designate an operator who will have primary responsibility in fulfilling SDWS operator’s duties relating to requirements for sampling, testing and receipt of results and submission of reports.
      • Owner must notify the Medical Officer of Health the name and address of the operator designated.
    • Every owner of a SDWS ensures that every operator of the system is trained.
      • Owner shall ensure every operator of the system is trained in drinking water system operation and maintenance.
    • Every owner and operator ensures that, the SDWS is operated in accordance with the requirements under Ontario Regulation 319/08 at all times.
    • Every owner and operator complies with all sampling, testing, monitoring and reporting requirements.
    • The owner or operator of the SDWS reports every adverse observation and every adverse test result obtained.
      • Owner / operator must report every adverse observation by speaking in person or by telephone to the Medical Officer of Health.
    • Every owner and operator follows the requirements made in the most recent directive issued.
      • The owner / operator must follow all the requirements under the most recent, effective directive.
    • Water samples requiring chlorine residual testing are conducted using an electronic direct readout colourimetric or amperometric chlorine analyzer.
      • An electronic readout colourimetric must be used.
    • For every sample that is required by the Regulation, a record is made.
      • Record date of sample.
      • Record time of sample.
      • Record location of sample.
      • Record the name of the person who took the sample.
      • Record the result of the drinking water test conducted on the sample.
    • The owner and operator takes corrective action during times of improper disinfection in accordance with Section 26 of the Regulation.
      • Owner / operator must immediately restore disinfection.
      • Owner / operator must take all reasonable steps to notify all users to use an alternate water source, or to bring water to a boil for 1 minute.
      • Owner / operator must notify the health unit by speaking with a person of the adverse observation.
      • Owner / operator must take all corrective actions instructed by the health unit.
    • Where a SDWS requires treatment, the owner and operator shall ensure that it is operational and properly maintained.
      • The water treatment equipment required must be in operation whenever water is being supplied.
      • Create maintenance records relating to all maintenance conducted on the water treatment equipment.
    • The owner or operator of the SDWS obtains drinking water testing services from a licensed or authorized laboratory.
      • Owner and / or operator must obtain drinking water testing services from a person or laboratory who is licensed or authorized to offer or provide the service.
      • Owner and / or operator must provide written notice of the laboratory that will conduct tests for every parameter required.
