What these findings mean

Health authorities word their findings differently, so we group them by what they mean for clients. In personal service settings like salons, spas and tattoo studios, higher-risk findings are the ones that could spread infection from one client to the next, through broken skin, blood or instruments that were not properly cleaned and sterilized.

• Cleaning, disinfection and sterilizationHigher risk

Tools that touch clients, such as clippers, nail files, footbaths and tattoo equipment, must be cleaned and then disinfected or sterilized to the level the risk requires. Inspectors check disinfectant contact times, sterilizer test results and how clean tools are stored. Items that cannot be properly cleaned must be used only once.

Recorded once on April 7, 2023. For example: Premises, work surfaces, instruments are adequately sanitized/disinfected and maintained.
