- Ensure work surfaces are of such form and material that they can be readily cleaned and disinfected.

- Did operator provide a sharps container and properly dispose sharps?
- Immediately after use, dispose all sharps (e.g., razor blades, credo blades, needles, lancets) in a sharps container that is located in close proximity to where the personal service is provided.
- Dispose all sharps used for hairdressing in a sharps container that is located in close proximity to where the personal service is provided.
- Do not fill the sharps container past the maximum fill line.
- Dispose sharps containers in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act, its regulations and any other applicable law of Ontario.
- Contract the services of a licensed medical/sharps waste disposal service to provide you with proper sharps containers and remove sharps from your business for proper disposal.
- Did operator properly use and maintain cleaning and disinfecting products?
- Do not use expired disinfectants.
- Provide a disinfecting container with a lid or cover that is capable of fully immersing equipment in the disinfectant.
- Observed debris inside the disinfectant. Clean reusable tools before disinfecting to maintain the disinfectant in a sanitary condition.
- Use only 70-90% isopropyl or ethyl alcohol.
- Prepare a new bleach and water solution daily.
- Ensure prepared disinfectant solutions are not topped up with fresh solution (i.e., do not add new solution to the current solution). Containers must be emptied, cleaned, disinfected, rinsed, and dried before refilling.
- Ensure that disinfectants used in a personal service setting are accompanied by a drug identification number (DIN), natural product number (NPN) or Medical Devices Active Licence Listing (MDALL) assigned by Health Canada (exception is bleach/sodium hypochlorite); and used as per the manufacturer’s instructions, where available.
