- F1.2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?
- Observation(s): Meat Department: - grinder is left in the cutting room (10C) after use and only cleaned once at end of day The grinder should either be: 1. cleaned and sanitized after each use; 2. cleaned and sanitized at least every 4 hours; or 3. stored in cooler (below 4C) after use until cleaning at end of day.
- F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
- Observation(s): - cutting boards in produce department need replacement (and ideally should be one piece)

- F2.1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?
- Observation(s): The meat department was unclear on active ingredient in their sanitizer, and had no QUATS test paper available for it.
- F2.1A Sanitizer test strips must be available for each chemical sanitizer used at the premises.

- F2.1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?
- Observation(s): Quat test strips must be available at both the produce and meat cutting stations in order to verify sanitizer concentration prior to use. 200ppm quaternary ammonium is required. Note: The integrated thermometer in the beverage cooler at produce may be giving a biased low reading. Please monitor to ensure an accurate read is being provided. This can be done by placing a container of water in the unit, allowing it to equilibrate with the fridge temperature, and assessing water temperature using a probe thermometer. The two values can then be compared.
- F2.1A Sanitizer test strips must be available for each chemical sanitizer used at the premises.
- F2.6 Are the premises designed and equipped to ensure safe food handling?
- Observation(s): Seasoning in the meat processing room is stored in rubbermaid storage totes. These units are worn and not of food-grade material. Please replace with foodgrade bins. Alternatively products may be stored within non-food grade bins if kept in their original packaging. Operator should look for means to elevate products off the floor in walk-in freezer and dairy coolers.
- F2.6B All food contact surfaces must be constructed from materials that are suited for their intended purpose, durable and free from any noxious (harmful) or toxic substance.
- F3.4 Are written sanitation procedures (Sanitation Plan) current and available on site?
- Observation(s): Please ensure written procedures for produce processing are clearly posted at the station. These procedures should delineate product washing, hand hygiene, as well as cleaning and sanitizing requirements for all food contact surfaces and the general prep area/sinks. Please provide a copy of this protocol to me by email as confirmation. Ensure all staff responsible for fruit/vegetable cutting are familiar with the expectations.

- F1.2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?
- Observation(s): 1. Cut fruits (watermelon and pineapple) are not being displayed in a manner to maintain the product at 4°C. They were being displayed only on a black mesh base (which was stated to have ice underneath). All cut fruit are at risk of supporting pathogen growth and must be maintained at 4°C or colder. Surface temperature of products were measured at 17°C and products were cut around noon. Staff was required to discard all cut fruit at the time of inspection. Please display any cut fruit only in the two following manners: in a refrigerated case that maintains temperatures of 4°C or colder, or half wedged in ice in the available ice table. All cut fruit must be cut fresh for the day--do not retain overnight to the next day. Note that many of the produce coolers, including the walk-in produce cooler are only achieving cold storage temperatures of 8-10°C. This is not cold enough for storage of potentially hazardous products. To maintain reliable cold temperatures of bean sprouts (a higher risk produce item) it is recommended that the bean sprouts bin be placed within a larger ice bin to reliably maintain this item at 4°C or colder. Surface temperature assessed at 8.6°C at the time of inspection. 2. The oval display fridge in the deli section was assessed at 7-8°C via a surface temperature read. Please review records and setting to ensure products are being maintained at 4°C or colder. Watch stocking of fridge to ensure levels do not surpass expected cooling airflow range (avoid multi-stacking and restock as needed). Please relocate/discard food items as needed if proper temperatures are not maintained.
- F1.2B Potentially hazardous foods must be stored or displayed at a temperature of 4 °C (40 °F) or colder.
- F2.1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?
- Observation(s): Test strips to verify the level of the quaternary ammonium sanitizer at the meat/fish department is missing color indicator to assist staff with determining the required 200ppm level for use. Please obtain new strips. It is very important for strips to be available so that proper dispensing of the sanitizer can be assessed given the long line it must traverse to clear out any remaining amounts of other products in the line (eg. degreaser, water).
- F2.1A Sanitizer test strips must be available for each chemical sanitizer used at the premises.
- F2.3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
- Observation(s): Cleaning and sanitizing of cutting implements and boards are not being performed prior to and after slicing of fruits. The cutting of fruits requires a clean and sanitized surfaces and tools as the flesh of the fruit can be contaminated. Fruits are to be fully washed prior to cutting. A sanitizer at a no-rinse level must be utilized. Vinegar can be used as a vegetable/fruit wash but is not a sanitizer. Multi-quat sanitizer for use by the produce department is to be obtained from the deli, not the meat room. It does not appear that the produce cutting station undergoes a routine sanitizing protocol. The use of multi-quat sanitizer should be applied after cleaning processes on a routine basis (recommended between processing of different types of produce), but at least at the end of each shift.

- Observation(s): **Exit door in the back area by the dairy cooler has daylight visible
- F3.4L - The premises must be protected against entry of pests.
- F3.5 - Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
- Observation(s): **Meat department: liquid soap is in a bottle that would have to be handled with dirty hands and this would not be considered good practice. Paper towel dispenser right by hand sink is stuck
- F3.5B - Handwashing station must be supplied with liquid soap in a dispenser.
- F3.5C - Handwashing station must be supplied with single-service product for drying hands.

I love to support local and the friendly staff and service here are excellent. They have a great little bakery and deli and a good selection of produce as well as name brand food products throughout the store, Unfortunately they don’t really cater to an Asian style diet so pickings are a very slim in that department with just the bare minimum generic and cliche items available also vegetarian or vegan items are extremely difficult to find, Although the produce section is well stocked with basic fresh items. I really want support this place more but I find the pricing in most cases is at least 30% more than they should be and seem dedicated to Tourist trap style pricing rather than catering to local residents, this is especially noticeable in the dairy and meat departments but also in the snacks, prepare to pay full rocket for pop or juice and snacks, which on average are 40% more than the norm. I really believe and wish that they would work with their suppliers to develop better pricing for their local customers many of whom are elderly and are unable to travel to Salmon Arm or Vernon for a lower grocery bill, most locals who can, choose to purchase their groceries elsewhere because of the high prices here, this is sad because Askews clearly loses business because of this. The trick with Askews is to pick and choose carefully, wait for deals and support them where you can.

Good selection of home made foods, nice produce and well stocked shelves.

Great butcher selection, friendly staff and convenient hours.
- Kelly Stone
This a well stocked and reasonably priced small to medium sized grocery store. We shopped several times while camping in the area and it had everything to meet our needs.
- Dean McMillan
Employees are great but prices are ridiculous
- Don Watson
Can only rate the bathroom as it did not have the full service kitchen / bakery like Armstrong (amazing!) does , which is why I stopped. Bathroom was stunning! People were very friendly

Sicamous Askews is the best Askews by far that I have ever visited, great in house deal, nice product and great customer service.

This is my favourite grocery store. We wish there was one closer to Kelowna. We had some Askew’s Italian sausage last night and they were the best I’ve ever had. Hardly any fat and the flavour was delicious. We also love the Laura’s frozen fruit pies. I can’t wait to go there again and stock up.
- Brett Rechel
Great store, good selection and prices.
- Joy Gardiner
On the plus side, they have a small variety of everything; on the minus side, if you're looking for a specific item, may the odds be in your favor. It is clean, the staff very friendly and helpful, and no major waits at the checkout. It is a little expensive, and in the summer boating season, can be busy.
- Jim LaFreniere
Loaded up for a ski trip, the service was amazing, was taken back by how friendly and accommodating everyone was!
- Chris Vierimaa
Great staff and very clean. Fresh reliable produce too, but when I got to the till today and saw $35.79 for 24 rolls of TP I almost had a heart attack. Great place and always friendly there. Keep up the good work guys. Please just lower some prices🤔 …

Fantastic store for such a small-town. We are very lucky to have a store like this in a town thats dead 8 months of the year. The prices are very fair for a smaller independent grocery store.
- Anne P Valentine
Staff are friendly and store is clean. But as much as I’d like to support small business the prices are very high! Just for example, Almond milk is $6.89, and I can buy it at any Salmon Arm store generally for under $4. Just seems like they’re taking advantage of Sicamous people as they’re the only grocery store in town.
- Heather Macnab
Good selection but pricey for some items - especially Vegan or vegetarian. Be sure check out the Deli and Produce section for "Discounted " products that are close date. These can be a great bargain! Also of note is their Fresh cut fruit including Pineapple. These are very reasonable.

We have been sledding, quadding, cruising, and boarding here for 14 years … Askews has everything you could ever need …. but the best part is … the QUALITY … triple AAA beef .. local produce… and today … OMG … the best pumpkin pie since my Grammie in Nova Scotia !!! love this place!!!

Unfortunately this store seems to have a terrible staffing issue. I've been shopping here for years however the last few visits have left a negative impression on me. I saw an amazing cake that I was told Janet at Askew bakery had decorated …

The Askews Grocery is a great local grocer. The manager insures that the fresh food is quality, the meat is quality and that the shelves are stocked. The prices are comparable to the larger city, with somethings more expensive and some are cheaper. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

Been coming here annually for years as our family cabin is up the highway towards Vernon -- great assortment of groceries and the price I'd say is extremely reasonable for being the ONLY grocery store in the town that sees a lot of traffic. Nice to see a grocery store that isn't just trying to gouge every customer.
- Christine Duguay
Nice grocery store with a deli & they carry some local products & produce. Some items cost more than larger grocery chains.
- Kaitlin Crerar
Went in today July 10th our total was $31.10, I gave her $40 cash and only gave me $2.90 back… how does that make sense ? It doesn’t but okay! We told her at the till it wasn’t right and she said “I did the math right” like no girl you in …

Everytime we visit the cabin we come here for supply runs. Staff is always friendly and they offer apples to the young children. Pricey but not out of line considering there's nothing else around it.
- ERG705
Great place despite having a few products that were expired, still love this place and they baked goods they make . They have local products as well witch is a nice touch
- Slightish
Picked up a cake here wednesday, staff was very helpful, store was clean, and the cake was delicious as well as reasonably priced. The employee who helped us with our order was very helpful, the message he wrote on our cake looked fantastic. Would deffinetly stop here again if I'm ever in the area.
- steven L
Unfortunately, the baked goods are not cooked enough. Always doughy. Well-stocked store.
- Ashleigh Attfield
This store holds the grocery monopoly in this town. So regular grocery shopping here can be expensive. But if you go often and look for deals you can find good food. My favourite department is meat! They have a butcher and they regularly have sales.
- Pam Purnell
People and staff are always friendly. Amazed at the discounts on fresh produce during holidays. I know they are clearing out those most perishable but a brown bag full of RIPE, tasty tomatoes for 2 bucks is a good reason to make and share salsa!

Nice and convenient grocery store but very expensive. Was there mid July and there was too many people for the size of the aisles and the local elderly were socializing and not respecting social distancing. Management needs to address this, …

- Jazmin Simpson
Always so friendly! Big smiles and helpful staff! Lots of employees! Is really angreat place to shop! Is a little higher prices than other places but totally worth it! I go here almost everyday!
- Michal Platek
Great store, they have their own deli and bakery. They offer really fresh fruits and veggies. It is the one and only store in town but it's got everything anyone would ever need while staying in Sicamous.
- Challon Maisonneuve
The staff is curtious, kind and offers helpful friendly service. Good selection of product and I love that they sell and support Dutchman Dairy. Big fan!
- Celina Gagne
Best bread, Spinach dip and baked goods! This is our go to market when visiting.
- Kevin
Like a lot of people, I was just visiting the area and needed groceries. Came to this store and it was very busy, even so, all the staff were patient and friendly, the shelves were stocked and the place was very clean. Great overall experience.
- K.P. Chaulk
Good selection of products, but higher prices than most supermarkets.
- Mitch Zais
Decent selection of foods that should cover most of your needs. The store is absolutely packed to fit all the different types of products you'd normally see in a much bigger store like Superstore.
- Chelsea Martin
They do absolutely amazing for our small town store they have am amazing variety don't even miss bigger city stores at all
- Brian Green
Well stocked grocery store. Good for getting provisions for your road or house boat trip. Prices seem reasonable
- Audra Reinhardt
Fantastic to have a great store like this in Sicamous. Very convenient for vacationers, cabin owners, & residents. Prices are a bit high but the alternative is Armstrong or Salmon Arm
- Marcus Breslin
Great supermarket, lots of fresh fruit and veg and very reasonably priced
