    • 13. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) accessible to food handlers, located in suitable areas, and stocked with appropriate hand washing supplies?
      • Facility uses their two-compartment sink as a handwashing sink. Based on the facility's food handling limited to scooping ice cream and repackaging bulk candy, a two-compartment sink is sufficient for handwashing and dishwashing. Paper towel in a dispenser not functional during inspection. Current handwashing/dishwashing sink is not permitted for use. Hot and cold water is currently supplied through external jugs and heated thermal containers. No water is plumbed in, and wastewater is drained through the bottom of the sinks to buckets, which is then flushed down the toilet across the road in an office.ENSURE:1. Liquid soap and paper towel in dispensers are available at handwashing sinks at all times.2. A properly functioning handwashing/dishwashing sink is available with plumbed in hot and cold potable running water and proper drainage into an approved sewer line.Facility has ceased minimal food handling and will wait until approval is given from public health before resuming.Update: Facility has agreed to install a plumbed-in tap that can run hot and cold water with a drain that runs to a holding tank. Please contact Public Health when this is completed.

      • Bleach sanitizer in spray bottle too strong for accurate testing. The testing paper was bleached white. The sanitizing solution was adjusted to 100 ppm during inspection.ENSURE:Bleach sanitizer solutions for food contact surfaces are maintained at 100 ppm at all times (1/4tsp bleach per litre water).

      • The facility's current food handling permit indicates only prepackaged food must be sold and no food handling is allowed.Facility was operating an ice cream shop with employees scooping ice cream for guests.Facility was repackaging bulk candy in separate containers. Scooping ice cream and repackaging food is considered food handling and is not permitted until a Public Health Inspector approves it and a new permit is issued indicating as such. The facility agreed to stop all food handling until they approved to do so by a Public Health Inspector. ENSURE:The stipulations noted on the current permit are followed.
