- Did operator notify Peel Public Health of the intention to operate, add additional services and renovate or reconstruct the personal service setting?
- Did operator maintain reusable equipment in good repair and sanitary condition?
- Use a single-use disposable cover on reusable equipment that cannot be readily cleaned and disinfected or sterilized between each use.
- Discard single-use disposable cover immediately after each use.
- Before starting service, protect equipment and surfaces (e.g., squirt/spray bottles, machine, clipcord, lighting handle, chair armrests) with new barrier film or plastic covering.
- Did operator meet requirements for equipment that is used in invasive services?
- Ensure all sharps used for invasive procedures are sterile and for single use.
- Do not use equipment or sharps from packages that are damaged, wet, torn, punctured, unsealed, previously opened, visibly soiled, have been dropped on the floor or compromised in any way.
- Provide manufacturer documentation that equipment purchased is sterile and states the method used for sterilization (e.g., E.O. gas, gamma ray).
- The needle cartridge system must have proof from the manufacturer that it has a backflow preventer/protective membrane.
- Ensure equipment is not used beyond the expiry date provided by the manufacturer. Expired items must be discarded appropriately.
- Did operator properly disinfect equipment and surfaces?
- Intermediate-level disinfect equipment such as nail clippers, cuticle nippers, nail drill bits, ear piercing device, single-use ink caps, tweezers and scissors used in hair removal services.
- Do not spray or wipe equipment and surfaces with 70-90% alcohol. Alcohol evaporates quickly and will not reach the 10 minute contact time. Equipment must be fully immersed in the alcohol.
- Fully immerse equipment in 70-90% alcohol for 10 minutes and then discard the alcohol. Do not re-use the alcohol. When soaking equipment, new alcohol must be used for each batch of equipment.
- Pedicure basin with single use disposable liner: Clean the basin with detergent, water and scrub brush after every use. Clean and low level disinfect at the end of the day. If the liner tears or breaks while in use, clean and intermediate level disinfect the basin immediately after use. If a magnetic jet cover is used in the spa water, it must be cleaned and intermediate level disinfected after every use. (Show More)
- Pedicure basin without recirculation: Clean and intermediate-level disinfect pipe-less basin and all removable parts (if applicable) after every use. First clean with detergent, water and a scrub brush. Rinse with clean water and intermediate level disinfect. Rinse again with clean water.
- High-level disinfect equipment such as grater-style foot files, comedone extractor with loops on both ends, and diamond microdermabrasion tips.
- Did operator maintain client records for invasive services?
- Keep records for invasive procedures including, which procedure was done and the part of the body the procedure was done to, client name and contact information, service provider name and contact information, explanation of and risks associated with the procedure, date of procedure and lot numbers and expiry date of the pre-packaged sterile equipment used in the procedure. - In the client record, document lot number and expiry date of the pre-packaged sterile equipment used in the procedure.
- Before starting the procedure, provide clients with an explanation of and risks associated with the invasive procedure.
- In the client record, make note of when you explain the service and any risks associated with the service to the client.
- Keep invasive procedure records for one year at personal service setting and readily available for an additional two years.
- Provide records to a medical officer of health or public health inspector on request.
- Records must be made by the operator or personal service worker who provided the explanation and information of the invasive procedure.
- Provide clients with verbal and written after-care instructions for invasive and laser services.
