- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- *** Operator uses PREempt RTU which is an intermediate level disinfectant to disinfect semi-critical tools. For equipment classified as semi-critical such as tweezers, nippers, etc. must be cleaned and disinfected using, at a minimum, a high-level disinfectant. All disinfectants must have a DIN or an MDL issued by Health Canada. Personal services workers must follow all disinfectant manufacturer’s instructions, including those for contact time, reuse period, diluting and mixing, storage, and rinsing of equipment after disinfection. It is important that the effective concentration of high-level disinfectants must be tested and verified each day using the test strips specified by the disinfectant manufacturer. In addition, the following records must be kept; date of the tests, test strip results, dates when disinfectant was changed and the initials of the personal services worker who performed the activity. November 17, 2023: The facility was still using intermediate level disinfectant (Preempt Concentrate) to disinfect semi-critical tools. Please note that this is an ongoing violation and must be corrected immediately.Purchase a high-level disinfectant as discussed during inspection, ensure high-level disinfectant test strips are used to test the solution each day it is used, and records kept on a log sheet.
