Inspection summary

Fresh St. Market Whistler - Deli has been inspected 13 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since February 20, 2019. The most recent inspection, on October 7, 2025, found no infractions.

9 of 13 inspections on record found no infractions at all. No inspections are on record from the past 12 months. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Protecting food from contamination and Handwashing and staff hygiene.

The last 2 inspections in a row found no infractions. The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded 5 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on September 27, 2024. For example: All equipment, food contact surfaces, utensils, dishes & glasses used on the premises are washed and sanitized in a manner that removes contamination.

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded 3 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on October 1, 2021. For example: Food is handled in a sanitary manner and is not subject to contamination.

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded once on October 1, 2021. For example: Each employee demonstrates good personal hygiene and washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.

  • Building, plumbing and upkeepLower risk

Floors, walls and ceilings must be smooth and clean, with working lighting, ventilation, plumbing, hot and cold water, and washrooms. These are rarely an immediate food-safety risk on their own, but persistent problems can lead to pest or sanitation issues.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on August 7, 2019. For example: Operation of premises is in accordance with approved floor plans and specifications.

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded once on September 27, 2024. For example: A food service establishment must have written procedures to ensure the safe and sanitary operation of the establishment.

Came in to pickup some lunch and dinner as we were staying at a place that had a kitchen. We picked up 2 Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwiches and some Miss Vickie’s chips for lunch. The sandwiches had lots of smoked meat, pickles, cheese and some mustard I think. The buns were very fresh and tasty! The chips were crunchy and went well with the sandwiches with the truffle flavour making them taste more exotic. We also picked up some dinner here as they have lots of ready made pastas, lasagne, sushi, butter chicken, sandwiches, wraps, bowls and salads. Good food at a good price!

This store is perfectly located in the heart of Whistler Village, offering unmatched convenience for locals and tourists. Open daily from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM everyday. There are stocks everything from fresh produce, meats and pastries to organic and local goods. The store is clean, well-organized and has a vibrant. Parking is paid at Whistler Marketplace, but free for purchases over CAD 35, making it budget-friendly. Though prices are slightly higher than in Vancouver, the quality and variety make it a top choice for grocery shopping.

This market has a good variety of fresh produce and groceries. The best part is the Peak Donuts stand in the corner. Great coffee at very reasonable prices, Whistler or elsewhere. The selection of donuts is awesome! They typically have about a dozen varieties available. Fresh and tasty and pretty good prices- they average around $4 or can get 6 for $18.

A little Pricey, but expected for the resort location. Not too outrageous. Great offer of all fresh foods and grocery options for cooking and snacking at the accommodation and day trips on the mountain.
