Inspection summary
Granville Tobacconist has been inspected 30 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since January 10, 2023. The most recent inspection, on August 12, 2026, found no infractions.
12 of 30 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 10 inspections with 19 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Handwashing and staff hygiene.
The last 3 inspections in a row found no infractions. The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their findings differently, so we group them by what they mean for your health. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are one of the main ways germs spread, from person to person and onto food and surfaces. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing their hands when required, and sick staff being kept away from work where it matters. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded 9 times across 7 separate inspections, most recently on May 15, 2026. For example:
A person must not sell, offer for sale, provide or distribute tobacco or vapour products to a person under 19 years of age [TVPCA Section 2(2)]
Food safety training and certificationLower risk
Many jurisdictions require a trained or certified person on site, such as a certified food handler. These findings mean the training record or the trained person was missing at the time. They do not by themselves mean anything was handled unsafely.
Recorded 29 times across 18 separate inspections, most recently on July 6, 2026. For example:
Information Sheet
Permits, records and postingLower risk
Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.
Recorded once on June 25, 2025. For example:
Municipal business license posted in a conspicuous place
Other findingsLower risk
Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.
Recorded 32 times across 16 separate inspections, most recently on July 6, 2026. For example:
