Inspection summary

Gunbarrel Saloon has been inspected 4 times by Interior Health Authority since February 16, 2023. The most recent inspection, on December 15, 2025, recorded 4 infractions.

2 of 4 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 4 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Pests, Protecting food from contamination and Handwashing and staff hygiene.

Recent inspections have recorded more infractions than earlier ones, so it is worth reading the latest reports closely.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • PestsHigher risk

Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.

Recorded once on December 15, 2025. For example: 2 Are proper pest control measures in place on the premises?

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded once on December 15, 2025. For example: 5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded once on December 15, 2025. For example: 7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded once on December 10, 2024. For example: 3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?

  • Other findingsLower risk

Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on December 15, 2025. For example: 1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?

First time here! We were about to leave after a disappointing greeting from a lady who obviously wasn't happy about hosting those entering the restaurant. Still, we tried to understand and ended up being served by a fab lady, Meg, who made our experience memorable! She was sooooo good with my toddler and made her dining experience exceptional. She even asked about her fav colour and gifted her a little bracelet 🥹 The food was nicely presented and was good! We loved the vibe and unique ski resort style decorations! Was a busy restaurant which indicated popularity! We’ll be back! ☺️

After (or even before!) a solid day of skiing, the Gunbarrel doesn’t disappoint! Nice selection of draft beers, and super yummy food. Great mountain lodge atmosphere and the staff are so friendly.

Ordered teriyaki bowl and penang chicken. The portion was decent and the service was friendly. The vibes are chill. The food was tasty. It’s a convenient stop once you are done with winter sports at Apex Mountain Resort.

Nice spot, excellent decor. Food is pretty standard pub fare. Fancy caesar! Kids burger and fish tacos also pictured.

I came up with one of my partners around 2pm last week. The bar area and patio were both packed, but there was a huge area with tables that was completely deserted. We were really hoping for a nice meal after seeing the delicious sounding food on the menu, but when we arrived, there was a very unhappy looking hostess. She told us that: - It would be a 30 minute wait (or more) - They weren't seating people in the empty section - We couldn't eat our own food there (we didn't have any lol) - That this was a bar so it's pretty noisy (completely ignoring the very quiet deserted section) She was pretty rude and we weren't interested in waiting, so we moved on, but I'm sure we would have had a great time if they'd chosen to open the closed section.
