- There were no written procedures for cleansing skin, applying antiseptic and accidental skin cuts or punctures.Prepare written procedures for cleansing skin, applying antiseptic and accidental skin cuts or punctures. - 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
- 1) Soap at the handwashing sink had been diluted with water. 2) A reusable towel was being used for drying clients’ hands at the handwashing sink in the bathroom. Personal clothing was stored on top of the reusable towel on the towel bar.Provide liquor soap and single use paper towels in suitable dispensers at the handwashing sink.Keep personal items separately.

- An antiseptic was not available to clean clients’ skin before performing tattoo services that involve puncturing the client’s skin.Provide an unexpired, antiseptic with a DIN or NPN (natural product number).
- 11. Is post-service care provided by personal service workers following any personal service or accident where a client's skin or mucous membrane is cut or punctured during a personal service, or when energy-emitting equipment is used?

- Sterility assurance documentation from sterile cartridges was not being kept with client records.Maintain sterility assurance documentation with client records for a minimum of 2 years.

- 1) The tattoo machine was being used while the handle was only partially covered with barrier protection. 2) There was no barrier protection for the adjustable lamp while tattooing was in progress.Ensure the handle of the tattoo machine and the lamp are fully covered with barrier protection before tattooing.

- A low-level disinfectant was not available for non-critical items such as work surfaces and the client bed.Provide a low-level disinfectant with a DIN (drug identification number) and the word “disinfectant” on the label.

- A sharps container was not available to safely discard used needles.Provide a puncture resistant container for the proper disposal of used needles with a tight-fitting lid and store it in an area that cannot be easily knocked over.

- There were a bed and a stool that was constructed with untreated wood in the service area.Remove personal items from the work/ service area. All surfaces in the work/ service area must be smooth, easily cleanable and waterproof.
