    • Outdoor play area recommendations are met
      • Sandboxes should be covered when not in use.
      • Sand in sandboxes should be raked daily, inspected for signs of contamination and safety concerns, and replaced every season or as required.
      • Outdoor play areas should be inspected daily prior to children going outdoors to ensure that they are free of visible hazards (e.g. sharp objects, animal droppings).
      • Outdoor play equipment should be removed from use and repaired or replaced when damaged.
      • Stagnant water should be removed from outdoor play areas.
      • If tires are used in outdoor play areas, holes should be drilled to prevent water accumulation in the inner rims of the tires.

      • Mouthed toys should be immediately removed from use and stored separately in a designated, labelled container until they are able to be cleaned and disinfected or laundered (as applicable).
      • Mouthed toys should be cleaned and disinfected or laundered after each use (as applicable). Mouthed toys should be rinsed following disinfection.
      • Toys should be maintained in good repair. Toys made of wood should have a smooth finish.
      • Toys should be cleaned and disinfected or laundered following an established schedule.
      • Dress-up clothes should be laundered weekly or as needed (i.e. when visibly soiled).
      • Shared or communal plush toys should only be used if they can be laundered as needed or as per an established schedule.
      • Baskets, bins or containers used to store toys or other items should be cleanable or equipped with a cleanable liner.
      • Toys which can no longer be properly laundered or cleaned and disinfected should be repaired or discarded.
    • Furniture, surfaces, and equipment recommendations are met
      • Walls, floors and ceilings should be clean and in good repair.
      • Furniture and equipment should be maintained in good repair (e.g. free of cracks, rips, and tears) and stored in a clean and sanitary condition.
      • Surfaces and furniture should be smooth, non-porous and cleanable.
      • Soft furniture (e.g., couches, chairs) upholstered with porous fabrics should have removable covers that can be laundered.
      • Cribs or cots should be dedicated, labelled with children’s names, and disinfected weekly at a minimum, or when visibly soiled. If cribs or cots are shared, they should be cleaned and disinfected after use by each child.
      • Cots/mattresses should be made of a cleanable, non-absorbent material and should be maintained in manner that facilitates cleaning and disinfection, and that does not pose a safety hazard.
      • Mattresses should be covered with a protective waterproof barrier to prevent contamination and cleaned when visibly soiled or as per an established schedule.
      • Carpets should be vacuumed and steam cleaned following an established schedule or as needed.
      • High chairs should be cleaned and sanitized after each use.
      • Extra items not currently used should be removed from child care rooms.
