Inspection summary

Jakes Thai Food has been inspected 4 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since January 15, 2026. The most recent inspection, on August 7, 2026, recorded 1 infraction.

1 of 4 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 4 inspections with 12 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Food temperature control and Protecting food from contamination.

Recent inspections have recorded more infractions than earlier ones, so it is worth reading the latest reports closely.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on August 7, 2026. For example: The premises and all equipment, utensils, and food contact surfaces are maintained in good condition and used in a manner that ensures safe and sanitary food handling.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on July 30, 2026. For example: Potentially hazardous food is at a refrigerated temperature that keeps it safe to eat.

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded once on July 30, 2026. For example: Food is handled in a sanitary manner and is not subject to contamination.

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded once on July 30, 2026. For example: Each employee demonstrates good personal hygiene and washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded 4 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on July 30, 2026. For example: Operator of a food service establishment has developed, maintained, and followed approved written procedures to ensure that a health hazard does not occur.

Absolutely loved the food here! Everything we ordered was delicious, and the flavors were truly one of a kind—authentic, bold, and full of character. My favourite was the fermented crab papaya salad. The fermented crab flavour is so unique and authentic, with a depth of flavor that you don’t often find elsewhere. The grilled pork neck was also fantastic—juicy, flavourful, with that wonderful smoky grilled taste and a special dipping sauce that brought everything together. And the Tom Yum Kung was simply perfect—rich, fragrant, sour, spicy, and beautifully balanced. Definitely a Thai restaurant I would come back to. Highly recommended if you’re exploring new Thai flavours! 🌶️🍤

The food here is really authentic. The pad thai just reminded me the taste I tried on Ko Samet, not too sweet or salty, everything is just right. The chicken on is flavourful and fresh. The grilled pork neck is tender inside and crispy at the edges. Eating the meat together with the sauce and sticky rice brings everything to the next level. It is just perfect! The owner is really friendly and passionate about making tasty food. Thank you for letting us try the mango sticky rice, it makes the meal finished perfectly! There’s no doubt that I will come back and recommend this gem to my friends!

Jake’s Thai food is one of the most authentic Thai restaurants in Vancouver. We had such a great experience with both the food and the service. You can really feel the chef’s passion in every dish and in the way the food is presented. The menu stands out from other Thai restaurants because it offers real Thai flavours that are very hard to find in Vancouver. Eating here truly feels like going back home and enjoying food made by your mom. My top recommendation is the Kaeng Som — it was absolutely the best! So delicious and full of authentic Thai flavour. Highly recommended!

I recently discovered Jake’s Thai Food, and it has quickly become my new favorite authentic Thai restaurant. You can really tell they use fresh ingredients—the dishes are incredibly aromatic and full of flavor. The quality of the meat is excellent. I ordered the grilled steak, and it was cooked to medium-rare perfection. Paired with their sauce, it completely elevated the dish. The sour curry cha-om omelette with shrimp was another standout—hearty, comforting, and packed with nutrition. They also make some of the best sticky rice in town. The rice is beautifully separated into distinct grains, yet still soft—not soggy at all. The coconut rice balls reminded me exactly of the ones in Thailand, but even better—larger in size with a very generous amount of filling. They even offer free delivery in Vancouver. I had it delivered, and the service was top-tier. Highly recommend!

I had dinner at Jake's Thai Food today and I am officially obsessed! The food completely blew me away—it’s pure, authentic Thai flavors that instantly made me homesick in the best way possible. It genuinely tastes just like home. But what makes this place a total 10/10 is the incredible vibe. They have an open kitchen, and you can really see that the owner pours their whole heart into this restaurant. They don’t just care about the food or the customers, but they take amazing care of their staff too. It feels less like a boss-and-employee dynamic and more like a big, happy family. Because of this, the kitchen and service team are always working with the biggest smiles on their faces. Everyone is so down-to-earth, friendly, and welcoming. It honestly feels like having a delicious dinner at a close friend’s house. Amazing food, wonderful people, and unmatched energy. Do yourself a favor and check them out! #VancouverEats #ThaiFood
