- 209 - Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
- Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) A packed of floor was stored in close proximity with detergents in the basement dry storage rack. Storing chemicals in close proximity to the food may lead to chemical contamination through cross-contamination.
- Corrective Action: A food operator must store all non- food chemicals in a specific, separate area, away from all food items. Staff moved the detergents into a separate rack.
- 209 - Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
- Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Scoops for floor and sugar were not stored in a safe and sanitary manner. Scoop handles were deep inside the food items. When scoop handles are touched by hands, countertops, or other surfaces, it can easily get contaminated by pathogens such as bacteria and may lead to cross contamination of food items when they are improperly stored. Storing the scoops in a sanitary manner prevents these pathogens from transferring directly into the food product.
- Corrective Action: A food operator must ensure that scoops are stored in a clean and sanitary manner. Staff removed the scoops and stored them in a sanitary manner.
- 309 - Chemicals, cleansers, & similar agents stored or labeled improperly [s. 27]
- Observation: (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) Two unlabelled chemical spray bottles were observed in the kitchen. Contents could not be determined at the time of inspection. Lack of chemical identification through labelling may lead to unintended use of the chemicals which may lead to contamination of food products, equipment and food preparation areas.
- Corrective Action: Operator noted that they are not in use and removed them from the food preparation area. A commercial food establishment must ensure that all chemical containers are labelled and those that are no longer in use must be removed from the food preparation area.
