Inspection summary
La Baguette & L'Echalote has been inspected 14 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since October 22, 2015. The most recent inspection, on January 7, 2026, found no infractions.
6 of 14 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 2 inspections with 1 infraction recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Pests and Protecting food from contamination.
The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their findings differently, so we group them by what they mean for your health. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Surfaces, dishes and tools that touch food or people must be cleaned and then sanitized or disinfected. Inspectors check sanitizer strength, dishwasher temperatures and how cleaning is done. Poor sanitizing lets germs survive from one use to the next.
Recorded 7 times across 7 separate inspections, most recently on March 7, 2024. For example:
The premises and all equipment, utensils, and food contact surfaces are maintained in good condition and used in a manner that ensures safe and sanitary food handling.
PestsHigher risk
Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food, supplies and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.
Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on December 17, 2025. For example:
The premises is free of conditions that lead to harbouring, breeding and entry of pests.
Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk
This covers how food and supplies are stored and handled: kept covered, off the floor, and away from anything that could contaminate them. Where food is served, raw meat must be kept away from ready-to-eat food, a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.
Recorded once on October 27, 2021. For example:
Food is handled in a sanitary manner and is not subject to contamination.
Building, plumbing and upkeepLower risk
Floors, walls and ceilings must be clean and in good repair, with working lighting, ventilation, plumbing, hot and cold water, and washrooms. These are rarely an immediate health risk on their own, but persistent problems can lead to pest or sanitation issues.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on December 15, 2022. For example:
Operation of premises is in accordance with approved floor plans and specifications.
Permits, records and postingLower risk
Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.
Recorded once on March 7, 2024. For example:
An operator of a food service establishment must develop, maintain, and follow written procedures to ensure that a health hazard does not occur in the operation of the establishment.

I’ve been doing a lot of pondering and experimentation regarding the simple and versatile samwich. Bread, Meat, cheese, sauces, bread. There are so many breads out there, that’s there’s a bread for every samutation, even buckwheat wraps have a place sometimes. But in my 10 years in this city, I am yet to find a bread that’s versatile and capable of anything. I’ve baked bread myself and yes it’s been a 10 out of 10 half the times I tried, I’d prefer to munch barbecue lays on a everything bagel before spending hours kneading and baking for 50% success rate. All this work was not for naught, for this week my journey ended - I found it. The pullmans loaf from here is a gift from god. It can do anything. If you’re Irish like me, this is the sandwich bread you been looking for. It’s a ‘Pat the Baker’ and ‘Brendan’s Bread’. The crust gets better after 3 days. I recommend the half inch slices and that you slash out for a worthy butter and cheese..

Fyi There is no consistency in the quality of the buns. Sometimes the quality is good but most of the time it is bad. Even there’s no cosistency in their sizes, sometime they are bigger than they should be and sometimes smaller for the same ordered size. I will delet my review when you fix these issues

EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! Had a rock in my sourdough bread, bit down on it and lost my front tooth due to their negligence. Wrote them twice to advise them of the misfortune and didn't hear back, which is unfortunate as they guarantee customer service. Thanks for this horrible, costly experience.

I work on Granville Island, and everyone loves to stop by and get something yummy, or get their weekly breads. The staff are very helpful, especially the time I was choosing out a birthday cake. It was affordable for that high quality of a cake, everyone at the party raved and asked for their name card. I always have their sandwiches (on baguette bread) for lunch, and you can be sure there is good reason that I keep going back.

Not a bakery or storefront, just a waste of time and rude staff
