Inspection summary

La La Island Bakery & Cafe has been inspected 4 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since January 30, 2025. The most recent inspection, on January 28, 2026, found no infractions.

2 of 4 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 2 inspections with 3 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Food temperature control, Cleaning and sanitizing and Protecting food from contamination.

The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on January 20, 2026. For example: Potentially hazardous food is at a refrigerated temperature that keeps it safe to eat.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on January 20, 2026. For example: The premises and all equipment, utensils, and food contact surfaces are maintained in good condition and used in a manner that ensures safe and sanitary food handling.

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded once on January 20, 2026. For example: Food is handled in a sanitary manner and is not subject to contamination.

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded once on January 30, 2025. For example: An operator of a food service establishment must develop, maintain, and follow written procedures to ensure that a health hazard does not occur in the operation of the establishment.

One of the best cafés in Vancouver! The atmosphere is bright, happy, and welcoming, with such a great vibe. It’s the perfect spot for a quiet moment, catching up with friends, studying, or getting some work done. The coffee and teas are excellent, and the fact that they’re open until 8 PM is a huge bonus! They also make one of the best Matcha Lattes I’ve ever tried. They used to have a Matcha Rose Latte, which was absolutely delicious and so unique. Unfortunately, it’s no longer on the menu; please bring it back! And if you ever add a Hojicha Latte or a Hojicha Earl Grey Latte, that would be amazing!

This is a great place to hang out or study. There are plenty of seats and couches available. The Kyoto matcha latte was delicious, and the young woman working today was very nice

As a student, it’s a great place for a cozy and comfortable place to study. I ordered the matcha and coffee. Both were great

A bed of miraculous foam drapes itself over this pool of nutty, ancient, ….elderflowery coffee. I have yet to put a name on this flavor profile. The foam was like a duvet that’s just been freshly escorted out of the dryer, tucked carefully on top of the surface of the liquid. One might call this a thickie. It tastes awesome. It appears they are well-known for their matcha lattes. It may be worth considering. Excellent planning on behalf of the chair comfort. Your butt is shielded from the cold, wooden surface by cotton chair pads with designs reminiscent of something you’d see in the souvenir shops of a summer resort (that would make sense for a place called La La Island). There is lower-back support, and there is also storage space under these chairs. There are throne chairs for those who seek maxim comfort. All in all, a good place to consider for both clickity-claking and chitty-chatting. 10/26, 10:33, 86db Item: Elderflower latte
