Inspection summary

La Patisserie has been inspected 13 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since June 13, 2018. The most recent inspection, on March 4, 2026, recorded 1 infraction.

4 of 13 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 1 infraction recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Handwashing and staff hygiene and Food temperature control.

The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded 4 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on March 4, 2026. For example: The premises and all equipment, utensils, and food contact surfaces are maintained in good condition and used in a manner that ensures safe and sanitary food handling.

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on February 20, 2025. For example: Each employee demonstrates good personal hygiene and washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded once on February 20, 2025. For example: Potentially hazardous food is at a refrigerated temperature that keeps it safe to eat.

  • PestsHigher risk

Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.

Recorded once on January 24, 2024. For example: The premises is free of pests.

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded once on June 13, 2018. For example: Each employee washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.

Visited La Patisserie in Richmond in July 2026. This spot is located in a very busy mini mall. We picked up a few items to go: BBQ Pork Bun - we found the bbq pork filling to be too sweet. Chicken bun - this was ok but the filling wasn't the best as you couldn't really taste the chicken. Fruit Cake - we had high hopes for this but found there really wasn't much fruit filling. Not sure if we just got a bad slice. Curry Beef Puff - not bad. The pastry was flaky. Walnut Cookies - these small walnut cookies were pretty good. Chocolate Chip Cookies - these were really good and the best thing we got here. Nice and chocolatey.

Dropped in here because the smell of the sponge cakes drew me in. Picked up a few pastries, cookies, and some cheesecake slices. I had a pineapple bun which was airy but tasteless, and also had the sponge cake that was delicious, light and airy, and had just the right amount of sweetness. The cheesecake slices were just mid and too light. Honestly not the worst and would possibly come back in the future for the sponge cake. The cookies were also very tasty. However, I would not step foot in this store again as the overall customer service experience was completely lacking. There was an older lady working the cashier who was very respectful and nice, there were no problems with her. Unfortunately, there was also a younger, short blonde hair woman cashier working there who had the most rude and miserable attitude I have ever encountered in any store. She had a perpetual RBF, acted like I didnt exist, and tried to get the customer behind me (seems to be her friend) to push in front of me while I was still getting my change. The older nice lady who was handling my cash transaction even had to tell the younger worker to wait. I see there are numerous other reviews calling this employee out as rude. I am shocked that the owners still have her as a front facing worker, because she definitely has a chip on her shoulder and will drive away customers. I’m from Hong Kong and can safely say this was not the infamous “Hong Kong” service attitude. The nice older lady cashier and the sponge cake were the only saving grace for this store and make up the 2 stars of this review.

Bought this slice of Cake today, and it was horrible. Stale, strawberries are old n not fresh. Definitely not a made today cake… more like 3-4 days ago. If i didn’t have a gift card i wouldn’t even bother going there. Owner and staff obviously doesn’t care about selling couple day old cakes…..

They used fresh in fresh ingredients to make their bread and pastry items. Definitely reflected in the price but it definitely worth the money. I love their items more than Kamdo bakery. My go to is the roll cake and 皮蛋酥. The filling of the 皮蛋酥 is very fresh and not overly seasoned/too sweet.
