    • 11. Are parent provided foods being properly handled and stored to ensure the safety of clients in this social care facility?
      • In the Snapdragon Room, a refrigerator used to store parent-provided food was found to be operating above the required cold holding temperature of 4°C or less. Using an infrared thermometer, temperatures were observed to be approximately 6°C or higher. A probe thermometer was subsequently placed in the refrigerator and recorded a temperature of 11.4°C.The operator was advised of the temperature concern during the inspection. Parent-provided food should be relocated to an alternate refrigerator capable of maintaining 4°C or less until the unit is assessed and repaired. Ensure the refrigerator is capable of consistently maintaining safe cold holding temperatures prior to continued use. Continue to monitor and record refrigerator temperatures regularly to verify proper operation.

      • In the Baby's Breath Room, the chlorine sanitizer solution was tested and found to be approximately 50 ppm.Sanitizer solutions below the recommended concentration may not provide effective sanitization of surfaces and equipment. Staff were advised to adjust the solution as necessary to maintain concentrations within the recommended 100-200 ppm range. Continuous monitoring should be conducted to ensure effective sanitization is achieved.

      • Bingo dabbers available for use did not have labeling indicating that they were non-toxic.The operator was advised to remove all bingo dabbers used within the facility. Ensure that bingo dabbers and similar art materials used by children are clearly labeled as non-toxic or/and have the Approved product seal appropriate for child use.

      • There is a climbing apparatus in the indoor play area. A thin mat is underneath part of the structure but a fall protection surface or zone is not present. The structure measured 22 inches high at the top of the climber.Structures above 20 inches require a fall protection surface and appropriate fall protection zone.Structures 20 inches or less must be located on a surface that does not pose a hazard if a fall occurs. A fall protection zone of 1.8 m around the structure is strongly recommended, but a smaller zone will be considered if it shows adequate protection. This zone must be free of other objects or equipment while the play structure is in use.Children must be appropriately supervised to prevent falls/injuries.
