Inspection summary
Little Mexico Cantina has been inspected 15 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since January 15, 2021. The most recent inspection, on August 11, 2026, recorded 3 infractions.
4 of 15 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 4 inspections with 6 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Pests, Cleaning and sanitizing and Handwashing and staff hygiene.
The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
PestsHigher risk
Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.
Recorded 11 times across 10 separate inspections, most recently on August 11, 2026. For example:
The premises is free of pests.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded 5 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on August 11, 2026. For example:
The premises and all equipment, utensils, and food contact surfaces are maintained in good condition and used in a manner that ensures safe and sanitary food handling.
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on February 27, 2023. For example:
Each employee demonstrates good personal hygiene and washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.
Food temperature controlHigher risk
Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.
Recorded once on February 13, 2023. For example:
Potentially hazardous food is at a refrigerated temperature that keeps it safe to eat.
Permits, records and postingLower risk
Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on August 11, 2026. For example:
Operator of a food service establishment has developed, maintained, and followed approved written procedures to ensure that a health hazard does not occur.

This place is amazing. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. Food is great. Happy hour price is unbeatable. Good wine and chicken wings. It’s on the heart of Steveston harbour Always come here. Fajitas is awesome. Atmosphere is great. Had a great conversation with Scottie. I enjoyed the enchiladas and their wing and wine combo for $10. The best happy hour price Can’t beat it anywhere. Came back again

We went there on 07 Feb 2026 as almost the end of Vancouver Dine Out Festival. My son, my daughter and I, three of us. It was the first time for us to try the Mexican food, but the waiter was so patient to explain how we should read the menu and helped us placing the order. They agreed that we could order two Dine Out order as my little kid does not always eat much. So we have two wings as the Appetizers, 3 tacos, and a bowl with taco fillings. We enjoyed the dinner so much as they came to ask how we felt without bothering us. After my little kid came out of washroom and I was preparing to check the bill, I was told that our table was taken care of by some body and we did not need to pay anything! And the person was too shy to let us know who they are! I am sooo grateful about this, and we really enjoyed the meal as the first try of Mexican food. We were very satisfied with what we ordered, they tasted really good!

Excellent food and if you go during Happy Hour then it's even better! The vibes are also pretty good with the live music they bring in sometimes. I recommend the birrias and the churro ice cream.
