Inspection summary

Local Public Eatery - Kitsilano has been inspected 26 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since October 29, 2015. The most recent inspection, on May 13, 2026, found no infractions.

6 of 26 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 2 inspections with 4 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Protecting food from contamination and Pests.

Recent inspections have recorded fewer infractions than earlier ones, so the record is improving.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded 15 times across 12 separate inspections, most recently on May 6, 2026. For example: All equipment, food contact surfaces, utensils, dishes & glasses used on the premises are washed and sanitized in a manner that removes contamination.

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded 12 times across 10 separate inspections, most recently on May 6, 2026. For example: Food is handled in a sanitary manner and is not subject to contamination.

  • PestsHigher risk

Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.

Recorded 11 times across 10 separate inspections, most recently on September 9, 2025. For example: The premises is free of pests.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded 8 times across 7 separate inspections, most recently on January 3, 2023. For example: Potentially hazardous food is at a refrigerated temperature that keeps it safe to eat.

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded 4 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on May 6, 2026. For example: Each employee demonstrates good personal hygiene and washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.

Came here for dinner. The food and atmosphere were excellent, but the service was a bit of a hit-or-miss (50/50). Not all the staff were bad, but we experienced long delays. Every time we asked for assistance, we were told our server would be informed, but no one ever followed up to bring our items. Good potential, but the service needs better communication.

In this unique corner eatery, the atmosphere is definitely top-notch. Many people come here to enjoy socializing, eating, and drinking. The food is good; however, if I come back, it will be because of the amazing staff and crew. A visit to Kitsilano isn’t complete if you miss LOCAL.

As for the food, it was excellent; you can really tell there is detailed preparation and care put into every dish. Highly recommend for great food, awesome service, and a fun atmosphere!

This public house was just down the road from our AirBNB and we’re craving some later night snacks. They had a really good and very well priced set of NA options including beers and “mocktails” around $7 CAD which is very under priced for most places but very appreciated. We got the shrimp dumplings and the house fried chicken and both were superb. After poking around at the dessert menu, we were set on the peanut butter cup dessert but to our dismay, the waitress informed us they were all sold out. A few moments later she came back and said the chef will “figure it out” and within minutes, we were presented with the absolute tastiest dessert we had on our trip. It was a mix of chocolate mousse and peanut butter mousse and I was in absolute heaven. I wish we had more time there so we could have made a second trip. Kitsilano as a whole is such a great neighborhood. You can go wrong there.

The food was delicious ( 5 star ), booth was comfortable ( just don't sit in the corner one where the speaker is literally right behind your head ), staff was nice ( possibly understaffed), atmosphere is noisy, but it fits the vibe. We would go back for sure. This place is more of a pub style vibe, ( but with better food), probably great for group sized visits.
