Inspection summary

Locarno Beach - Concession has been inspected 14 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since June 22, 2015. The most recent inspection, on June 29, 2026, found no infractions.

6 of 14 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 2 inspections with 1 infraction recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Food temperature control, Protecting food from contamination and Cleaning and sanitizing.

The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded 4 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on June 18, 2026. For example: Potentially hazardous food is at a hot holding temperature that keeps it safe to eat.

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on May 27, 2022. For example: Food is handled in a sanitary manner and is not subject to contamination.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded once on May 27, 2022. For example: The premises and all equipment, utensils, and food contact surfaces are maintained in good condition and used in a manner that ensures safe and sanitary food handling.

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded 5 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on April 12, 2023. For example: An operator of a food service establishment must develop, maintain, and follow written procedures to ensure that a health hazard does not occur in the operation of the establishment.

  • Building, plumbing and upkeepLower risk

Floors, walls and ceilings must be smooth and clean, with working lighting, ventilation, plumbing, hot and cold water, and washrooms. These are rarely an immediate food-safety risk on their own, but persistent problems can lead to pest or sanitation issues.

Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on May 1, 2025. For example: Operation and maintenance of premises is in accordance with approved floor plans and specifications.

We were here on Sunday because our friend told us they had good food last time she went… first they charged our friends ahead of us for the wrong thing and didn’t know how to do a refund so they had to call a manager and it took 20 minutes for them to figure out how to reverse the transaction. After this I had a feeling the food was not going to be good but my husband and I were pretty hungry and wanted to stay at the beach. We ordered the 2 piece fish and chips. The fish we got had already been sitting in the basket when we got to the pick up window and the fries as well. She put the fries into the oil again for a couple minutes and then proceeded to mix them into a bowl of old fries. The fish and batter were so tough and dry in spots I couldn’t eat it along with the old fries that got mixed into the reheated fries. Waste of $20. Since I work in the food industry I pay more attention than others I’m sure and this is not how you make good food and encourage people to come back next time.

One of the worst food experiences of my life. Bought a hot dog, hamburger and fries to share. The buns on both the dog and burger were stale to the point where you could chip a tooth on them. The meat in the burger was rubbery and obviously warmed up. The fries tasted of old oil. If I could give this place zero stars I would. On the bright side- great location and views.
