    • 21. Is the facility properly constructed and maintained in a state of good repair to allow for the safe and sanitary handling of food?
      • EXISTING FLOORING FINISH IN KITCHEN FACILITY:Observed that the existing flooring finish in the main portion of the kitchen area (where the four sinks are located) is not in a condition that facilitates easy cleaning and the other portion of the facility (where there is a domestic type refrigeration unit) is carpet and is not ideal since it easily collects dirt/debris.Based on the above, this flooring finish should be replaced with a new flooring finish which would meet the following health requirements:1) Smooth2) Easily cleanable3) Light in color4) Durable and non-slip.Finally, have discussed above flooring finish with the landlord/property owner (Irma Coop) and who have indicated that they have extra flooring finish from a previous install in the produce room and who may utilize this for this task.STAFF/PUBLIC WASHROOM:Observed that the washroom in the facility is for both Staff and the public and door opens directly into the kitchen area.Since this is after the fact construction, our Department would recommend the following preventative measures:1) Install a hydraulic mechanism on the top of the bathroom door to ensure the door is self-closing to prevent air borne contaminants from migrating to the kitchen area.2) Currently, there is no exhaust ventilation in this washroom and subsequently would install an exhaust fan (which exhausts to the outside) and tie this in with the light switch. This fan (when on) will remove any potential air borne contaminants generated particularly when flushing the toilet.Note: since the operator rents this commercial space, the above washroom deficiencies have also been forwarded to the landlord/building owner for potential assistance in completing this task.
    • 23. Is the facility maintained in a clean and sanitary condition?
      • Observed/noted a significant amount of clutter in both the main kitchen area and the rest of the facility. This type of condition would be ideal for rodents (if entry is gained).Since the kitchen area is small and very narrow, store items/equipment required for the facility only and any other equipment should be removed and either donated or disposed.Based on this, the owner/operator has stated that the facility will tentatively be temporarily paused in the first week of July 2026 to address the significant clutter.
