Inspection summary

L'otus Cake Boutique has been inspected 8 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since January 10, 2018. The most recent inspection, on March 10, 2025, found no infractions.

4 of 8 inspections on record found no infractions at all. No inspections are on record from the past 12 months. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing.

Recent inspections have recorded more infractions than earlier ones, so it is worth reading the latest reports closely.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on February 15, 2025. For example: All equipment, food contact surfaces, utensils, dishes & glasses used on the premises are washed and sanitized in a manner that removes contamination.

  • Building, plumbing and upkeepLower risk

Floors, walls and ceilings must be smooth and clean, with working lighting, ventilation, plumbing, hot and cold water, and washrooms. These are rarely an immediate food-safety risk on their own, but persistent problems can lead to pest or sanitation issues.

Recorded 5 times on January 19, 2021. For example: Maximum number of patrons that can be accommodated on the premises has been determined

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded 4 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on January 19, 2021. For example: COVID-19 Safety Plan developed and in use

  • Other findingsLower risk

Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.

Recorded 3 times on January 19, 2021. For example: Where partitions are in use, they are positioned such that droplet transmission is blocked

One of our favourite coffee shops in Vancouver. And we love their cheese cake and we have been purchasing birthday cheese cakes from them since last year. Highly recommend. You can order online. The only complaint is they open late in the day…cafe opens at 9am the latest but they open at 11:30 lol and opens late. Ok, because they offer the best coffee and cakes and pastries, we can wait.

Good late night study spot, with the atmosphere being the best part. Relaxing and spacious with an aesthetic interior. Today I wanted to get in a nice study session and wanted to come during the day. Sometimes the wait can be 1hr + for a table. I'm studying with my friend and although she already ordered a cake the lady helping informed us on their 1 item per customer. I understand that cafes should prioritize paying customers when its busy if "freeloaders" are taking up space but with 10 tables available it wasn't busy at all, plus my friend did order a cake already. That itself wasn't too big of a deal but despite being asked for time to decide she came back 3 times within the next 5 minutes. Although it could be seen as being attentive, the manner in which she kept prodding came off as rude and pushy. I wasn't hungry at all and since she was so insistent I tried to order a latte. It turns out that their coffee machine was broken and she only told me when I tried to order. I've gotten their matcha and cakes before which are good but the prices are definitely a bit too high, not great value, especially for the size. I normally come at night on weekends and the barista Nick is great, always super welcoming and very helpful. This isn't supposed to be a scalding review or anything because truth be told their food isn't bad just a bit pricey. The only reason I updated this review was because of the experience today, I'll definitely come back on weekends and Nick's service alone is 5 ⭐️

This was nicer than I expected. The staff were super friendly and made me feel welcome + I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The tea was delicious and the matcha-yuzu pastry I tried was equally good. Bonus points for the comfortable seats and the ability to bring your laptop for work!

Second time coming to Vancouver and I came to this shop again. My first time visiting, the cake was really good and not too sweet. Came back to Toronto and kept thinking about this place wanting to try the other cake flavours. Second time here, we ordered 2 cakes, matcha yuzu and rose lychee. The matcha was my favourite, it blends well with the yuzu jelly inside!
