Inspection summary
Lucky Taco has been inspected 34 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since October 29, 2015. The most recent inspection, on June 17, 2026, found no infractions.
10 of 34 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 2 inspections with 6 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Pests, Cleaning and sanitizing and Protecting food from contamination.
The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
PestsHigher risk
Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.
Recorded 21 times across 19 separate inspections, most recently on June 25, 2025. For example:
The premises is free of pests.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded 15 times across 12 separate inspections, most recently on June 3, 2026. For example:
The premises and all equipment, utensils, and food contact surfaces are maintained in good condition and used in a manner that ensures safe and sanitary food handling.
Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk
This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.
Recorded 11 times across 8 separate inspections, most recently on June 24, 2019. For example:
Food is handled in a sanitary manner and is not subject to contamination.
Food temperature controlHigher risk
Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.
Recorded 5 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on June 3, 2026. For example:
Potentially hazardous food is at a refrigerated temperature that keeps it safe to eat.
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on June 25, 2025. For example:
Each employee demonstrates good personal hygiene and washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.

Frankie is an absolutely amazing bartender. They served us drinks and food all evening… made sure we had the best food, best drink and is super entertaining. All around this is one of the best , if not the best Mexican restaurant downtown Vancouver… what an amazing atmosphere and super friendly staff… highly recommended establishments and restaurant/bar.

This was our first time here. We had the El Pastor and Spicy tacos. Both have been delicious! The place has a nice fun, vacation ambience. Great service. You can either be outside standing at a high table, sitting outside (limited) or sitting inside. They also have Happy Hour deals, but I wouldn't call saving 50 cents to be a deal, they definitely could improve that, otherwise we would have given it 5 stars on all. We will be back to try more food :)

It’s located in a nice neighborhood, the service was good, timely and friendly overall. The food was nice as well. Well prepared tacos, but the veg options were a little saucy and heavy so instead more vegetables with light sauce would be nice. My wife is a vegetarian and unfortunately her tacos had a fishy smell was was a big let down. Otherwise it’s a nice place. Good staff.

Extremely lovely atmosphere outside where we ate, the place is colourful and fun. Both servers were very engaging and kind and made great conversation. I ordered the churros, and when they came out they were small (see photo), however, as I ate I realized it was the perfect size and any more would have been too much. They were served in a beautiful platter with vanilla ice cream and Dolche de Leche sauce.

We went to Lucky Taco on a beautiful sunny Friday evening, but the food completely ruined our mood. We started with margaritas. They weren’t the best you’ll find in town, but they were acceptable. Then we ordered tacos, which turned out to be a big mistake. It took 45 minutes for our tacos to arrive. The fish taco tasted awful, and the other tacos were just mediocre. Maybe these tacos would be acceptable from Taco Bell, but not from a restaurant. Each taco cost around $8–9, so we expected a decent portion. Instead, they were tiny—just a few bites. Definitely not worth the price. We didn’t try other menu items like the quesadillas, so I can’t comment on those, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend ordering the tacos here.
