Inspection summary

Lucky's Exotic Bodega has been inspected 4 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since March 3, 2025. The most recent inspection, on October 5, 2026, recorded 2 infractions.

3 of 4 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 3 inspections with 2 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Handwashing and staff hygiene.

Recent inspections have recorded more infractions than earlier ones, so it is worth reading the latest reports closely.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded once on October 5, 2026. For example: Each employee demonstrates good personal hygiene and washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded once on October 5, 2026. For example: The Permit to Operate a food service establishment is valid and is posted in a conspicuous location.

Amazing experience! I can't remember the last time I had so much fun buying things for my kids! There was this young woman, she helped us a lot with choosing, and made us laugh a lot! At the end, we chose those mystery bags, and the kids LOVED it. I need to come more often! For Mel: The kids got exactly what they wanted, thank you again :) 10/10 experience. 5 stars.

The branding caught our eye. The word Bodega reminds of of New York City for some reason. A mixed bag of what they sell. Vintage clothing as well! ( head down to the dungeon for more clothing ) I guess they have several locations scattered throughout Vancouver. A lot of selection of products for sure but they really do jack up the prices. We Asian so we know the real prices! Had fun browsing though.

Lucky's Exotic Bodega on Lansdowne in North Vancouver is a great shop to visit. You have to see the exotic selection of products available. Dessert counter, smoke shop (18+), custom ramen noodles station and milkshakes available. Great selection to browse through. Outside seating and a parking area but not wheelchair accessible.

Such a fun store. It has something for everyone. From exotic candies to unique, high end clothing. Excellent customer service. Great place to take your date or your kids.

I placed an online order on June 18 from Lucky's Exotic Bodega and picked it up at the North Vancouver location. After being made to wait while staff "prepared" it, the employee with curly hair handed me a bag stapled shut multiple times and said, "This is your order." It wasn't. I checked before leaving, and not a single item I paid for was in that bag. Not one. The products were the same *categories* as what I ordered — ice cream, chips, that kind of thing — but every single one was a different brand or flavor than what I actually paid for. Rather than tell me my items were out of stock, someone deliberately swapped in whatever was on the shelf, stapled the bag shut, and handed it over betting I wouldn't look inside. When I pointed this out, the employee actually said he "couldn't tell the difference" between what he'd given me and what I ordered. That's the whole problem. It's not your job to decide my order is close enough — it's your job to give me what I paid for, or tell me you can't. No call, no email, no "we're out of these," no offer of substitutions or a refund. Just silent swaps in a sealed bag passed off as the real thing. When I raised it, the excuse was that keeping inventory updated is "hard." I don't care. If your inventory is wrong, you tell the customer and give them options — you don't quietly replace an entire order and assume they won't notice the difference. The stapled bag wasn't a mistake; it was an attempt to get the wrong order out the door before anyone looked. The aftermath was somehow worse. After I pointed out that nothing matched, there was no apology, no acknowledgment, no ownership — nothing. The employee's entire response was a flat "OK" before wandering off to grab another bag. No explanation. No concern. No basic decency. For a screw-up this complete, the indifference was honestly insulting. And this isn't some struggling corner store. Lucky's Exotic Bodega is a recognized brand with multiple locations. At that scale, inventory management, quality control, and minimum-effort customer service shouldn't be optional — yet this was one of the most careless, dishonest retail experiences I've had. Substitutions happen. Quietly swapping every item, sealing the bag, passing it off as someone's paid order, and then claiming you "couldn't tell the difference" is not a mistake — it's a decision to not care. If you order online from this location, inspect every single item before you leave. There is apparently no guarantee you'll get what you actually paid for.
